Daniel two bottom teeth finally have some company. Tooth number 9 (bottom, just left of the middle two) popped through yesterday. Sunday, 22 November 2009. Yesterday we caught the new Canada Line downtown to Yaletown. It wasn't a really nice day, rainy and cold, but we made the best of it and decided to get out of the house. Today I we...

Nathan and Mareesa Cunneen, Brisbane Australia. A blog to keep friends and family up to date with our lives in Vancouver Canada from 2007-2010. Monday, 25 January 2010. The weekend has come and gone already, soon it will be February! I am feeling that we are very busy of late, and it doesn't look like settling down just yet. Friday night we participated in a Burn Notice Premiere party - thanks Ziggy! Tonight I am going to a 2 hour knitting for beginner's course (just for fun! With Amber, we are visiting ...

Nathan and Mareesa Cunneen, Brisbane Australia. A blog to keep friends and family up to date with our lives in Vancouver Canada from 2007-2010. Wednesday, 24 March 2010. Ryan is 2 weeks old in about 7.5 hours time. This time 2 weeks ago I was baking cookies, doing laundry and wondering if my contractions were real labour or not! Here are some photos of Ryan with Nana. She's been holding down the fort for us - Daniel is going to miss her attention and help next week when Mum is busy. Nathan has less than ...

Nathan and Mareesa Cunneen, Brisbane Australia. A blog to keep friends and family up to date with our lives in Vancouver Canada from 2007-2010. Saturday, 26 June 2010. We've been in Mackay for just over a week now. We feel winter is warm! Saturday, 12 June 2010. Got a "new car". Actually a 1992 model. Nathan detailed it today so that it is clean and shiny for me and the boys. He gets to drive a work ute up so we can take whatever will fit on the back and in the boot of the Mazda! Next update from Mackay.

Cunneens in Canada: December 2009
http://cunneensincanada.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html
Nathan and Mareesa Cunneen, Brisbane Australia. A blog to keep friends and family up to date with our lives in Vancouver Canada from 2007-2010. Monday, 28 December 2009. Here is a link to a small video of Daniel sorting shapes (on youtube). He says 'no' when it doesn't fit, and 'yeah' when it's in the right place. I'm amazed at how clear his attempt at 'triangle' sounds, a fluke I think. This was videoed 2 weeks ago. Shape sorting video - click here. Thursday, 24 December 2009. Wednesday, 16 December 2009.

musings on public policy & governance: Heating up
http://philricho.blogspot.com/2009/11/heating-up.html
Musings on public policy and governance. Monday, November 30, 2009. Its been quite remarkable to watch the Coalition tear itself apart over climate change. The issue has become so politically charged that one of the potential leadership candidates (Joe Hockey) is considering reversing his position on climate change due to agitation from the Coalition base. And Ian Pilmer's musings on the matter? I would argue most of us, whether consciously or subconsciously, use shortcuts to decide how we stand. I g...

musings on public policy & governance: The Battle of 1944 (Polanyi vs Hayek)
http://philricho.blogspot.com/2009/11/battle-of-1944-polanyi-vs-hayek.html
Musings on public policy and governance. Tuesday, November 17, 2009. The Battle of 1944 (Polanyi vs Hayek). 1944 was the year Allied forces took to the beaches at Normandy, beginning one of the bloodiest and most pivotal phases in World War II. It was also the year in which two mighty salvos were fired in the battle of ideas about political economy: Karl Polanyi's. The Road to Serfdom'. And in Australia, John Howard. All regarded Hayek as a guiding light. Consensus that emerged in Britain and the US duri...

musings on public policy & governance: October 2009
http://philricho.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html
Musings on public policy and governance. Thursday, October 29, 2009. The Torres Strait Islands, which lie off the northern tip of Queensland's Cape York Peninsula, are one of the most unique - and arguably least understood - regions of Australia. A population of about 7000 live on the 17 of 274 islands which are inhabited. Having said this, the region has serious policy challenges in the areas of economic development, climate change, border security and health - some of which I've outlined below. The dis...
