A site to collect thoughts and figures of the moment. Really not dead yet…. (Yes an update). Categories: Cars & Trucks. Posted on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 by D-Caf. So it’s been over two years since my last post. Been very busy in my life and haven’t had time to do as much tinkering and computer stuff at home as I usually would. That’s not to say I haven’t done anything, just haven’t documented it. Here are a few things that happened in the last two years:. 2TB NAS box with a new NetGear ReadyNAS Pro.

A site to collect thoughts and figures of the moment. Why RAID 5 is NOT dead yet. Posted on Monday, May 26, 2014 by D-Caf. So, recently I started looking to see if there was any nice hardware around to provide a solid enclosure for a Freenas based home made NAS storage system. In looking into this, I ran across this page: Freenas Raid Overview. What really caught my eye was the statement “CAUTION: RAID5 “died” back in 2009″ and a link to this article:. Why RAID 5 stops working in 2009. Have offsite (a di...

A site to collect thoughts and figures of the moment. My SUV Project (Tiguan). So after my Blazer died, I took advantage of some of the great sale deals going on and managed to get a good deal on a new 2009 Volkswagon Tiguan SE with 4Motion. It’s a pretty nice ride, not as big as the Blazer, but excellent road handling and a surprising powerful 4 cylinder turbo-charged engine. Some basic specs:. 2009 VW Tiguan SE. 4Motion AWD System with 6 Speed Tiptronic Transmission (Manual and Sport modes). FC3 Sharp ...

If [ -f "${HOME}/.gpg-agent-info" ]; then. Export GPG AGENT INFO. Export SSH AUTH SOCK. Edit bashrc and add:. And now all is happy. Some of this was found on this page:.

A site to collect thoughts and figures of the moment. EeePC 1000 Linux Review. Ok, figured out that the webserver running on port 20032 is used for the virus scanner user interface. It doesn’t start on boot, only once you click on the icon to configure the virus scanner. It appears to only allow access from localhost to the program though the webserver does respond from any IP. Here are the two plus my Mac Book Pro together. So, with that said, here is what you get with the EeePC 1000:. 3 x USB 2.0 p...

Finding a solar cell was actually pretty easy, doing some looking around I found this Anker 14W Portable Panel on Amazon:. Cheap at about $50 and a full 14W with two USB ports. All I needed to do was find a USB powered AA/AAA charger. Yeah, sure, no problem…. So what to do? To handle the power issues I noticed that the box and literature stated that the sola...

A site to collect thoughts and figures of the moment. Posted on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 by D-Caf. I’ve been very busy updating my home network infrastructure lately. I wanted to improve the zone separation, while at the same time providing a reasonably secure connection between my resources at home and my resources on the net. Some of these changes include:. Replacing my SSG-140-SH Firewall with a new SRX220H2 w/POE Firewall. Replacing my DELL 5448 Switch with a new Netgear GS724T Switch. So it’s...
