http://novicewoodramblings.blogspot.com/2012/04/safety-week-is-here-again.html
Ramblings of a Woodworker. Musings about my adventures in furniture making. Monday, April 30, 2012. Safety Week is here again! Although I've not participated in safety week in the past years, I've found all of the various blog posts to be good reminders that disaster can be only a stroke of the chisel away. Thanks to Marc at The Wood Whisperer for starting this annual event in an attempt to keep us safe! Tip 1: Realize when you've done enough for one day. Tip 2: Your hands are not vises! So, keep your he...
Ramblings of a Woodworker: About Me
http://novicewoodramblings.blogspot.com/p/about-me.html
Ramblings of a Woodworker. Musings about my adventures in furniture making. Welcome to my ramblings. I have been actively engaged in woodworking since January 2010 now but I'm getting ahead of myself. Like I said, I watched him through most of it and learned a lot. After leaving home for the wide open world, I forgot about it and went through the usual period of discovering myself and career hopping. I forgot about the joy of creation (cue the sad, tragic music). Thanks for leaving a comment. I will ...

Ramblings of a Woodworker. Musings about my adventures in furniture making. Sunday, October 23, 2011. Okay, I'm late with this post. So sue me :) Actually, please don't. One thing I'll mention for the class setups is that after the first day taking 4x 2hour classes, at the end of the day my brain was fried! The returning 2010 bloggers. So, my priorities at 2011 WIA? Meeting the other personalities, then the marketplace, then the classes. That evening was filled with friendships, good food, and lots of al...

Ramblings of a Woodworker. Musings about my adventures in furniture making. Sunday, October 23, 2011. Bevel Up or Down? At Woodworking in America this year, Graham Blackburn was a last minute addition to the seminar lists as David Charlesworth was not able to attend due to pneumonia. Ouch! Well, I had the pleasure of attending two classes on plane craft by Graham and the one thing I came away with on the second seminar was:. I thought, "Come on! Well, when I got home, I decided to give it a try as it had...

http://novicewoodramblings.blogspot.com/2010/07/lesson-learned-proper-planning.html
Ramblings of a Woodworker. Musings about my adventures in furniture making. Monday, July 5, 2010. Lesson Learned - Proper Planning. Marking the lines on the bottom, and the edges, I proceeded to use my smoothing plane to get the bevels to proper size. I found it important to sneak up on the fit and go back a couple of times and take a few more swipes with my plane before it slid neatly into place. I stepped back to admire my handiwork. It was perfect . or so I thought. My drawers are 22". I fail again.

I really like the Nicholson type benches, here’s an example. I drew at least a dozen variations and what I came up with looks almost exactly like Henry’s bench. Which was posted at the Logan Cabinet Shoppe. Henry's Bench as seen at Logan Cabinet Shoppe. Shop time has been limited lately. A month ago I went to the Minneapolis version of the Lie-Nielsen hand tool event. After reading other blog reports I was incredibly excited. Woodworking in the digital age. Friday, September 3, 2010. Portable Workbench, part 3. Go back to part 2. Now that the workbench has been built, here's how to use it. Most people are more familiar with a bench that has some kind of built-in vise. Instead, this one uses a variety of simple work-holding methods. The dog holes and thick front skirt make it quite versatile. I highly recommend the Gramercy Tools holdfast. I also highly recommend the Veritas Wonder Dog. Ripping a piece to width, again with the...
