A flurry of good wishes – 2014 Christmas cards | H U M A N G R A Y

Art by Maiji/Mary Huang. A flurry of good wishes – 2014 Christmas cards. December 20, 2014. I returned from my Taiwan trip. In the middle of November and panicked a bit because I thought I might not be able to come up with a decent idea and actually produce all the cards in time. They’re often a rather labour intensive process! Reality was I had to be a lot more realistic this year in terms of how ambitious I was with complexity and format. The piece on the right was my first test – I decided that ...

Art by Maiji/Mary Huang. Cardinal Directions – work-in-progress photos. December 31, 2014. Is one of my better planned (or perhaps I should say, one of my few actually planned) watercolours. For this painting, I used the Fluid brand of watercolour paper. 8211; specifically cold press block – for the first time. I’d also recently purchased a set of metallic markers (American Crafts, at Winners) for my Christmas cards. And thought it’d be neat to incorporate gold ink into the piece. The actual pencils are ...

Art by Maiji/Mary Huang. A walk through an early earth: The Encyclopedia of Early Earth by Isabel Greenberg. December 27, 2013. The Encyclopedia of Early Earth. How could I resist! So I admired the printing and the paper, and flipped through a few pages to check out the story. I was instantly mesmerized. It took a great deal of willpower to not finish the entire thing while standing in the aisle. The grey figures in the sky were blind spot printed and shone against the black cover to beautiful effect!

Art by Maiji/Mary Huang. Consider this: Artist Alley table setup variables. January 13, 2014. I’ve been attending artist alleys/events since 2005, and through these experiences (as well as being involved in running the AAtoast! I’ve seen and tried a lot of different table setups. Like probably every artist who does this, I have many stories. Most are super hilarious after the fact, but immensely stressful and frustrating during. Variables can show the way. Some of the most obvious considerations are:.

http://www.humangray.com/a-trip-to-taipei-in-watercolours
Art by Maiji/Mary Huang. A trip to Taipei in watercolours. December 17, 2014. Traveling is always such an intense yet somehow ephemeral experience. Nothing feels quite real till you get there, and when you come back it all turns into a memory of a long dream. This past October-November was my long-overdue trip to Taipei, Taiwan. It was wonderful! And this being Taipei, of course there was a lot of eating, photo-taking and shopping! Buy 10 get 1 free. There was a local bakery we passed by nearly every day...

Maiji/Mary Huang interview | Basket Case
https://webcomicsinterviews.com/2016/10/17/maijimary-huang-interview/comment-page-1
Interview Schedule (Mar. 1). October 17, 2016. Maiji/Mary Huang’s Now Recharging. Was just announced on GoComics. Is a manga-influenced series about a haphazard android named Emmie, and their less than successful attempts at finding their purpose in life. There’s a lot of light-hearted humor and child-like wonder in this comic that takes a bit of time to build up and establish itself. Be patient, Now Recharging. Is worth the wait. How often will NR. Mostly I think of myself as someone who loves communica...

http://www.humangray.com/paintlounge
Art by Maiji/Mary Huang. August 9, 2014. This year I heard about Paintlounge. In the centre is a table with all the painting implements you could want – push-down tubs of paint, painter’s tape, all kinds of brushes (different sizes, toothbrushes, various bristles and even hairbrushes), sponges, mini photo albums of inspirational images, hairdryers, and more. You get a board with waxpaper to use as your palette, and pans of water for cleanup at your easel. And a delicate bubble abstract by anniemaryholly.
