Here are a few photos of us going about the annual tree safety we undertake every winter. This work can range from the fairly easy small trees, as shown in this gallery, to huge mature trees in awkward places where we will need to use lowering equipment to prevent damage to property whilst managing traffic and pedestrians. Ranger Roy National Trust. Saturday, 4 July 2015. In Stoneycroft Ghyll in the Newlands Valley, we have moved the rock that is known as legbreaker rock . The primary reason for doing this is to stop further erosion caused by groups leaving the ghyll to go around the rock and the water slide. This will enable groups to stay within the water-course rather than creating erosion around it. This is a win/win situation where we minimise erosion and also create a more enjoyable experience for ghyll scramblers.

Jan and myself have just returned from a fantastic three week holiday in Canada where we travelled as far north as Jasper and as far south as Invermere on the shores of Windermere. We spent some of the time with some friends Andy,. And their two growing. Sons They now live. And we managed to do some good things with them. We then spent some time with other friends and did some canoeing, rafting and walking with Kirk and his family.

I was out and about recently with Leila (our academy ranger) working on Friars Crag and in the middle of the day we were treated to the sight of a young tawny owl. Ranger Roy National Trust. Monday, 27 July 2015. A 16th century dam. I’ve just had a really good day on one of my trips to monitor the dam up Newlands Valley. As it is a structure that is part of a Scheduled Ancient Monument, I check its condition on a regular basis. At the moment there is some water flowing from the toe of the dam wall so it appears to have sprung a leak. Its main purpose now is to supply drinking water to the Trust’s High Snab Farm.
