Message from the Chair. Message from the Chair. Welcome to the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at the University of Maryland (UMD). Our department celebrated many accomplishments over the past year. In the spring of 2015, the department welcomed two new faculty members: Assistant Professor and Pedro E. Wasmer Professor in Engineering Birthe Kjellerup. And Lecturer Natasha Andrade. A CEE alum. We also applauded our American Society of Civil Engineers' (UMD ASCE) Concrete Canoe.
