For Now . . . A winter storm dislodged a cone. It landed on a rocky ledge. The cedar that the winds had sown. Soon sprouted near the water’s edge. Upon a ledge right by the bay. A breeze would make the seedling swish. Clear tidal pools were on display,. Revealing shades of pink starfish. There wasn’t much beneath its toes. Roots tunneled where basalt had cracked. From crumbled nourishment it rose. Above new paths where critters tracked. With added rings, stout it became. Until it built a solid frame.
