Nunhead Ramblings: March 2010
http://nunheadmumofone.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html
Join me as I ramble my way through Nunhead - though not in the walking boots and cagoule sense obviously. Sunday, 14 March 2010. I realised, as I droppe. D off my Mothers Day present round at Dad's house this morning, that I'd bought my poor mummy what was essentially a large pot of earth with a few bulbs thrown in. Obviously, once the bulbs flower in June/July time she'll be able to pop out onto her cloud, look down (a la Google Earth. And say "Oh look freesias and anemones! Which propelled David out in...

Join me as I ramble my way through Nunhead - though not in the walking boots and cagoule sense obviously. Sunday, 13 June 2010. She yelled which pretty much brought the whole place to an open mouthed standstill. Finger food abounds in the fridge, freezer and cupboards. It's too much, apparently, to ask my boys to eat proper food. With a knife and fork. Why eat a roast dinner when they can graze on chicken drumsticks, mini quiches, celery sticks and crisps? Frank and Marjorie have gone a bit off track....

Join me as I ramble my way through Nunhead - though not in the walking boots and cagoule sense obviously. Tuesday, 11 May 2010. Alliance. Two smarmy men in matching suits with matching Jags. I'm just miffed that they took Eastenders and Holby off air. I know it's a monumentous day and all that but.David Cameron and Nick Clegg. Put them together and what have you got? Nunhead Mum of One. Sunday, 2 May 2010. A post from Bea. Post" is my favourite.sigh! Stick my nose in where it was not wanted. I've cha...
Nunhead Ramblings: The Lock
http://nunheadmumofone.blogspot.com/2010/03/lock.html
Join me as I ramble my way through Nunhead - though not in the walking boots and cagoule sense obviously. Sunday, 7 March 2010. Charlie, who is now ensconced in her new flat, invited me round on Friday n. Ight for a "catch up". David, keen for me to "get back on the social merry-go-round" as it will "take me out of myself" (he's been watching too much Rikki Lake methinks) agreed to babysit both Mac and Freddie at Matt and Lydia's whilst the latter pair headed out cinema-wards. We both said in unison.

Restaurants, shops, people and life in Amsterdam. De Broodzaak: scam or lazy? On my way to Utrecht this morning, I decided to up my intake of vitamins with one of those freshly pressed orange juices at De Broodzaak. I asked the guy making sandwiches if there were any smaller bottles left. "No," he said, decisively. "Can I put less in a bigger bottle then? I asked. He looked slightly annoyed, mumbled something and disappeared in the back. He came back with -surprise! Now what was that? On “Your mone...

Restaurants, shops, people and life in Amsterdam. Crickets chirping* – Or: Phase two. I know, I know, it's been. Quiet here of late. The long and the short of it is: life got in the way. We got married (yay! We went honeymooning in Sicily (yum! And immediately after the honeymoon I started a new job, that required me to travel 1:45 hours every day, one way (so 3,5 hours per day)(urgh! And then. I got pregnant (yay! And I just looked at her blankly thinking: "Enjoy what exactly? The crazy sense of smell?

Restaurants, shops, people and life in Amsterdam. Summer in a glass. Living in De Baarsjes in Amsterdam has its perks. Like our Turkish corner market. We had one near our old place, and we have one right opposite our flat now. Where it took me four years to coax even the slightest smile from the proprietor of our old Turkish store, the man from our new store I are on a first name basis already. We wave, we smile, we talk about the weather, he sells me fruit and veg. And he gives me tips. Subscribe to com...

Restaurants, shops, people and life in Amsterdam. A couple of months ago I took emotional stock of myself and found that I was a little lost. I sort of skipped the whole emotional thing, you know, where the pregnant lady bursts out in tears? Didn't do that. But I was worried,. Now, I think that was all a phase, very likely hormone induced (like everything these past months). You're going to Belgium? What if the baby comes? She could be born on the side of the highway? But it's our first. It's not goi...

Restaurants, shops, people and life in Amsterdam. 8220;Your money is no good here”. My mum was visiting me in De Baarsjes. We went grocery shopping (Levi and I are doing rehearsal Christmas dinner today) and our last stop was the Turkish corner market. I walked around, gathering things and putting them on the counter, to be paid in one go when I was ready. My mum got a bunch of spring onions and put them in a separate place on the counter. I said: "Mum, don't be ridiculous, just put it with mine! A frien...
