The blog of a just-qualified Nurse who is looking for that elusive staff nurses job while his PIN number is in the post. Thursday, 27 September 2007. So as of 15:20, I finished my placement. Which is nice as that was a few hours off having covered for the ward move. I will miss the early finishes as a student. Speaking of which, I have handed in my first letter of application and CV asking for a job to the ward sister where I have been for the placement. Links to this post. Wednesday, 26 September 2007.

So I recon that rather then getting tho 06:25 X56, if I get the 06:06 65 that should mean I get in on the 06:37 63 from the crossroads, so I don't end up late. Right, that's transport sorted out, now for the money for bus fare.

The Life and Times of a Student Nurse: June 2007
http://lifeandtimesofastudentnurse.blogspot.com/2007_06_01_archive.html
The Life and Times of a Student Nurse. The ins and outs of a nurse in waiting. Friday, 29 June 2007. A busy morning in Endoscopy today, particularly as some assessors came in to make sure the Unit is meeting the Key Skills Framework. The cleaners have been in to buff the floor, trollies are sparkling, and some staff members have even had hair cuts! Evidently not). This wasn't good enough. I've been abandoned here for over an hour! It's interesting how the other three patients who were actually unwell wer...

The Life and Times of a Student Nurse: A Not So Dire Emergency
http://lifeandtimesofastudentnurse.blogspot.com/2008/02/not-so-dire-emergency.html
The Life and Times of a Student Nurse. The ins and outs of a nurse in waiting. Sunday, 3 February 2008. A Not So Dire Emergency. As a child I was taught that 999 was a very important number used in emergencies only, to the extent that I would still be very cautious of dialing it now for fear of jamming the phone line and preventing a real emergency call from being answered. This week a patient was brought into Eye Casualty by ambulance having dialed 999 because she had conjunctivitis. I was taught the sa...

The Life and Times of a Student Nurse: I'll Have Your Eye Out!
http://lifeandtimesofastudentnurse.blogspot.com/2008/01/ill-have-your-eye-out.html
The Life and Times of a Student Nurse. The ins and outs of a nurse in waiting. Thursday, 31 January 2008. I'll Have Your Eye Out! If so, you may not appreciate this post! I spent Tuesday with Wayne, the corneal eye retrieval nurse. Wayne's job is to assess the eligability of all deceased patients to donate their eyes for corneal transplant. Obviously this role is immersed in ethical, professional and legal issues and therefore many patients are unable to donate. For example, if "confusion? HIV, Hep B/C.

The Life and Times of a Student Nurse: Exciting Times Ahead
http://lifeandtimesofastudentnurse.blogspot.com/2008/02/exciting-times-ahead.html
The Life and Times of a Student Nurse. The ins and outs of a nurse in waiting. Sunday, 17 February 2008. I am happy to report that my OSCE went rather well. I landed the patient with an asthma attack, and felt I managed it quite efficiently. The only thing I unfortunately did not do, was check for any contraindications before putting the patient on oxygen. So that's 1/2 a mark off. I think it's safe to assume I achieved the 12/20 needed to pass. Glad it's over with! Something to indicate my BTh status!

The Life and Times of a Student Nurse. The ins and outs of a nurse in waiting. Monday, 30 July 2007. I'm now back at work following my week of leave. This week consists of two days of lectures, and three study days, so it's not quite a full working week! Monday, 23 July 2007. In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning. The Life and Times of a Student Nurse. The ins and outs of a nurse in waiting. Friday, 31 August 2007. It's been rather a while since I was last approached by an intoxicated middle-aged man. I was beginning to think they had all started hounding someone else, but no! Whilst walking through town a very unstable gentleman swaggered over and placed himself right in front of me. I wasn't entirely sure what to do, so smiled and said hi. His response? You have nice hair" - and then he carried on walking. Fortu...

The Life and Times of a Student Nurse: The Art of Communication

The Life and Times of a Student Nurse. The ins and outs of a nurse in waiting. Thursday, 17 January 2008. The Art of Communication. It's been an interesting couple of weeks on Eye Casualty so far. One patient asked for "Dr Gaylord", when they were actually due to see Dr Hayward. An elderly lady telephoned to find out if it would be suitable for her to come in. I asked her what the problem with her eyes was and she began, "well in 2004." It was a long conversation! Another elderly lady was with us this we...

The Life and Times of a Student Nurse. The ins and outs of a nurse in waiting. Friday, 1 February 2008. Now that the sheer excitement of my eye retrieval drama has subsided, I am working on a paper to present at our School of Nursing Conference in June. The conference is focusing on pre-registration education and my paper is all about dementia. Without regurgitating the entirity of my paper here, let me enlighten you with a few statistics. That's a lot of people, eh? I'll get off my high horse now :).

The Life and Times of a Student Nurse. The ins and outs of a nurse in waiting. Monday, 18 February 2008. Today was my last shift in Eye Casualty, and what a shift it turned out to be. Fortunately there was no bad practice to report this week. Not from a member of the nursing team anyway. A hefty volume of patients streamed through the doors this morning, many of whom required treatment from the doctor. He was due to turn up at around 09:30. 19 February 2008 at 10:35. 19 February 2008 at 14:04. In my corn...

Nursing Student Misadventures
Monday, March 28, 2011. Gaslighting by Nursing Professors. 8220;Gaslighting is the systematic attempt by one person to erode another’s reality. This is done by telling them that what they are experiencing isn’t so – and, the gradual giving up on the part of the other person. Back to the story. I asked my professor a question about a test question. I will provide the communication below. Hello, Professor XX. Thank you for going over the test questions with us in class today. I know that the exam was.

The blog of a just-qualified Nurse who is looking for that elusive staff nurses job while his PIN number is in the post. Sunday, 2 March 2008. I had a rather interesting dream the other night. I was out in York with my other half. Having been around most of the shops, and helping her choose a birthday present for her mum, we decided to head home. Good job I was sleeping, this is the average blokes idea of hell (however, it was time with her so it was all good). Do go ahead" I say. Yes, of course! Right, ...

Betty's Blues
Wednesday, June 06, 2012. We finally decided to bite the bullet and lay out the money to get it done. We are eventually planning to put up a garage in the area closest to the house, which you'll see in later pictures. Here we go. And here is a before shot of the side yard, which is now GONE. The neighbors joked that this was a pretty expensive way to get out of mowing so much! This part made me catch my breath. I was like, Are we making a mistake? At the end of each work day, the boys had a BLAST climbin...

Helping Nursing Students
This aims to help nursing students with their research and notes. Monday, March 23, 2009. What's next after passing the nursing board exam? Around more or less 50,000 nurses are registered in a year. But what happens next after the new nurses take their oath? BPO industry or perhaps getting married and settling down. So ironic! Sunday, April 13, 2008. Purpose: To provide effective barriers that prevent the dissemination of microorganisms to the. Patient and to protect personnel from infected patients.
