Nevada Expeditions - Westgate

All Places by County. Pony Express, 1860-61. Westgate, like Middlegate. Got its name from James Simpson in 1850. Simpson was commissioned by the government to survey a route across the rugged West. A Pony Express station may have operated here, and this was the point where the route split into two routes; the earlier, Southern route continued toward Sand Springs and the newer, Northern route continued toward Fairview Station and Mountain Wells. And Gold Ledge in Eastgate.
Nevada Expeditions - Golconda

All Places by County. Dec 23, 1869 to Present. The location of Golconda was first noted by emigrants for its hot springs during their westward move to California. In 1868, the Central Pacific established the station called Golconda (after an ancient Indian city) as a shipping point for the Gold Run district to the south, which developed two years earlier. A small resort was also opened at the hot springs, but the town remained small until the end of the century.

All Places by County. Apr 8, 1907 to Jun. 15, 1914. But that never materialized. Development lasted until 1912, and again from 1948-1952. Coppereid consists of two sites, Upper Coppereid and Lower Coppereid. Two stone buildings and the smelter remain at Lower Coppereid. Unfortunately, the road to Upper Coppereid no longer exists as it has been washed out over time, although it is accessible from Grimes Canyon to the north. That will be the subject of a later visit.

All Places by County. Oct 29, 1892 to Jun. 26, 1895. Clemens, or Clements, was the name given to a post office in the north-central part of the county. Presumably a water stop for nearby mines. It may have also been called Rockwell Station.
