Steps to the "Lost Wax" method of casting. The Lost Wax casting process is a precise, involved, and lengthy process. Most often artists begin with a sculpture made of clay. The entire process can take 8 to 10 weeks. Plaster is then applied over the rubber mold to add rigidity and strength. (The outside plaster is sometimes referred to as the mother mold.). 2002 Northwest Art Casting.
