The Kensington Gardens Seamstress. 8230;sewing…making…sharing…. The Kensington Gardens Seamstress. Is also known as Kathy, Mum, Darling, Hey You – and. By my mum, and only when she’s cross). She’s also the woman who’s beginning to question the wisdom of giving herself such a bloomin’ long blog name! The ‘Kensington Gardens’ bit is simple really – I live at the end of a lovely leafy cul-de-sac by that name, in Launceston, Tasmania, Australia. Two years of industry based instruction – not to mention ...

The Kensington Gardens Seamstress. 8230;sewing…making…sharing…. May 22, 2014. By The Kensington Gardens Seamstress. The colder weather has inspired some matching dressmaking…and I have been closely examining a small stash of beautiful tweed fabric I spirited away from Linton Tweeds in the UK when I was there last year. I’m quite pleased with the finished result and worked out a few tricks – some I wish I’d worked out first! All the pattern pieces were laid a single layer of fabric to make it easier to se...

Knitting designs for little boys. Trendy knits: The Gansey. July 16, 2016. Has anyone noticed this? Over the last year I’ve seen Ganseys everywhere. OK, I might be greatly exaggerating, because when I looked back to see if I was completely making that up, I could only really remember two examples. Do two influential knitwear designers count as a trend? Probably not. But anyway. Courtney Kelley of Kelbourne Woolens designed the beautiful Seascale. And Brooklyn Tweed did a whole Gansey collection. Yarn for...

The Kensington Gardens Seamstress. 8230;sewing…making…sharing…. July 13, 2014. By The Kensington Gardens Seamstress. This weekend the sewing room has been a hive of activity as Daughter and I work on our respective projects. The Divine Miss M has unearthed a project begun two tears ago: though I will refrain from further comment (“people in glass houses”……). The top was completed yesterday, and today the backing was prepared, sandwiched and is ready to quilt. I have altered the style line of the neck as ...

The Kensington Gardens Seamstress. 8230;sewing…making…sharing…. May 27, 2014. By The Kensington Gardens Seamstress. 8230;or, harking back to the ’80’s …… I’m loving myself sick! Know boasting’s not very cool – But I think I look pretty good in last weeks Linton skirt 🙂. I wore it to work today and received many compliments and inquiries – especially about the fabric (which I explained came from Linton Tweeds in the UK ). A much better pic of the fabric! Cheers for now,. Are you are Cutter or a Tracer?

The Kensington Gardens Seamstress. 8230;sewing…making…sharing…. June 8, 2014. By The Kensington Gardens Seamstress. Its a long time since I’ve sewn anything for the male of the species – like years! Then it was my son: rompers and overalls, windcheaters and t-shirts. As a toddler he would only wear bucket-style hats….just as caps became all the rage – thank goodness I could make them. Then, just before school started, Mum-made clothes became somehow toxic…. And evenings preparing the next days lessons!

The Kensington Gardens Seamstress. 8230;sewing…making…sharing…. June 1, 2014. By The Kensington Gardens Seamstress. Do you have pick-up-and-go sewing for those times when you aren’t able to be in your sewing space? Hand sewing 1″ hexies into these diamonds is mine. I am in Melbourne at the moment, keeping an eye on my 94 year old Nan who is in hospital. Lots of sitting around – all a long way from my sewing room! Thank goodness for my hexies. My hexies project will one day be a large quilt. Family Sewing...
