Jul 11, 2014. 皆さんご存じの通りマンハッタンは南北に細長く、碁盤の目のようにストリートとアヴェニューが交差しているんですが、1年に2日だけ、東西に伸びるストリートの先に太陽が沈む、つまり、ビルとビルの間に太陽が沈んで行く日があり、それはストーンヘンジならぬ、 マンハッタンヘンジ. ったのでご紹介。で、今年の2回のうち1回目は5月28日にあり、2回目が今日、7月11日ということで、とりあえず仕事帰りに34th Street の大通りへ。まさに、ストリートの西の先に沈んで行く真っ赤な太陽、街中にいながらこんなにまぶしい夕陽を眺めたのも久々だったけど、それを写真に収めようとする人だかりもまたすごかった。 下の映像は、"Manhattanhenge"の名付け親、アメリカ自然史博物館の天体物理学者、Neil deGrasse氏による美声解説。 Jul 5, 2014.
