Provides an opportunity for students of color and New York City Police Officers to support one another in collaborative efforts to increase civic engagement, foster leadership and strengthen communities. Experiential Learning at the Natural History Museum, NY. Students acknowledging Officer Melendez for his commitment to the program. Students working on homework. This type of informal police contact has been shown to improve police job approval ratings despite the presence of other negative perceptions.

Despite the rain, teamwork and the good humor of the day shone through, and a beautiful, multi-seasonal garden was created. This garden is a. Together NYC brings 10 students from local high schools to the precinct at 211 Union Avenue once a week to be tutored and mentored by police, with some of the students attending the program as an alternative to suspension.
