The Book Design Review: And That, As They Say, Is That. Monday, January 11, 2010. And That, As They Say, Is That. After almost 5 years and 1,112 posts, I've decided to put The BDR on indefinite hiatus. 2009 was a wonderful year, and I can't thank you enough for showing up: a third of a million visits from 190 countries yielded just shy of 640,000 page views. 3 of those visits came from Nuuk, Greenland. Thank you, Nuuk :-). Follow me on Twitter ( @theBDR. And The Book Cover Archive. Those guys are the best.

The Book Design Review. Monday, January 11, 2010. And That, As They Say, Is That. After almost 5 years and 1,112 posts, I've decided to put The BDR on indefinite hiatus. It's been a great ride. I've enjoyed almost every minute of it. But the joy of discovering and sharing has, over the past few months, become the tedium of finding and posting. So it's time to stop. I might resurrect The BDR if it feels right, or I might blog about something else. It's too early to tell. Follow me on Twitter ( @theBDR.
The Book Design Review
http://nytimesbooks.blogspot.com/2007/07/reading-comics.html
The Book Design Review: Reading Comics. Tuesday, July 17, 2007. Design by Alex Camlin. Fans of comics and graphic novels will have to tell the rest of us if vertical text is commonly used in those media - I just don't know. The use of primary colors plus black and white works very nicely here, and the eye on the left is a great addition - it underscores the graphic nature of the subject and it breaks the symmetry of the overall design. Nice. Buy this book at Amazon.com. Or maybe I'm just over thinking it.

The Book Design Review: Veganomicon. Sunday, December 09, 2007. Designed by Alex Camlin. I'm no vegan, but is using colors that remind one (or me, at least) of straw and mold the best way to spread the gospel of vegan deliciousness? I don't think so. I like the design! It reminds me of a jungle or a forest or something. Stop hating. Maybe it was designed that way to deter cynical people like you (thats how it worked out at least) i find the book appealing in many aspects. Keep reaching for the stars, Joe.

I Hate Crocs dot com. Dedicated to the elimination of Crocs and those who think that their excuses for wearing them are viable. Tuesday, August 26, 2008. Hatemail from Newsweek readers. The best part of getting mail is getting hatemail. It is fun! Here is a strange one from Michelle. She's civil and appears to agree with us. I can’t believe there are people that have the time to “talk about shoes” –. But, since I happened across your site – thought I would speak my mind. How can you be so stupid? Don't b...

I Hate Crocs dot com. Dedicated to the elimination of Crocs and those who think that their excuses for wearing them are viable. Thursday, January 15, 2009. OK, OK. You're right. It has been too long. I've been doing schoolwork and junk. You know how that is. I'm in my third year of my journalism degree and my 20th year of life. It is a busy time. Anyway, here is a selection of wonderful mail we've been receiving. The following is from Coby Klar:. The following is a supportive email from Holly:. We haven'...

Power Level One Million: Objet d'horreur Pink
http://powerlevelonemillion.blogspot.com/2010/05/long-ago-little-girls-played-with.html
Power Level One Million. A beacon to the homosexual eye]. Tuesday, May 4, 2010. Long ago, little girls played with Barbie dolls. They played with these dolls until puberty, upon which they moved on and new little girls took their place. Then one day, the little girls stopped playing with the dolls long before puberty. And with each generation the age of the little girls got younger and younger until 5-year-olds were saying stuff like, "Barbie dolls are for babies.". No, just no. May 5, 2010 at 8:46 AM.

Power Level One Million. A beacon to the homosexual eye]. Sunday, September 6, 2009. I do have to thank. The Uniques for giving me my favorite comics panel of the week. Look, maybe it's not a mistake. Maybe the stomp-victim's name is actually Sonfua and Ponytail Wheelman is overcome with emotion at his friend's plight! I bet Sonfua gets that all the time! Had a chance to flip through issue #2 of The Uniques. Which takes a Godlike. 1 via free download from uniquescomic.com. Yeah, it's painful. It looks an...

05 July, 2007. Thoughts on the iPhone. Well, I've been rockin' the iPhone for almost a week now, and it's an amazing device. Here are a few thoughts:. After having played with the iPhone for the past few days, I can say that it's met my expectations in all the ways I anticipated it to, as well as surprised me a few times by performing better than I expected it to. There have also been a few rough spots, but these have been minor and I expected them from the outset. Posted by Pablo Defendini.
The New Sleekness.: Beloit College's Mindset List

02 February, 2008. Beloit College's Mindset List. Beloit College has published their College Mindset List for the class of 2011,. Making the rest of us old farts feel even older and fartier. Among the nuggets of perspective gnawing at the Peter Pan inside me, the list assures me that people going into their freshman year in college this fall:. 4 They never “rolled down” a car window. 8 General Motors has always been working on an electric car. (Edit: Yeah, but will they ever. Posted by Pablo Defendini.

02 February, 2008. I just discovered A Brief Message,. Via Subtraction.com. A Brief Message is a site that -according to its masthead- 'features design opinions in short form—200 words or less'. This is a great concept, and I've enjoyed trawling through previous entries over the past hour or so. Of note is this entry by Clay Shirky, on arrogance and humility in the life of a designer:. As someone who has alternately been accused of being impossibly arrogant and. Right . . . Posted by Pablo Defendini.

11 February, 2008. Bin workin' on teh new bloggins. I've been workin', workin' on the new blog. It's actually going better than I expected it to from the get go. I got WordPress installed very painlessly, and all seems to be working correctly.
