Sunday, March 17, 2013. To HDR, or not? I've been considering of late the benefits and risks associated with using HDR techniques for property shots. I'm pretty happy with the use of HDR for exterior images, but am becoming increasingly dubious about the advantages of this technique for interior shots instead of using flash or studio lights. 7 shot HDR blend processed in Photomatix Pro. Some shots seem to work OK, but are they really better? Well, in some cases yes, but in others most definitely not....

Thursday, August 30, 2012. Anyway, hoping I'd made a mistake and was imagining the problem, I went into the backyard to take some shots of the kowhai blossom. The first shot was taken at f8 with the 85mm lens. Camera and lens mounted on a tripod. This is pretty sharp, but at f8 I'd expect it to be! As I said at the start . somewhat confused :-(. Wednesday, June 6, 2012. Transit of Venus earlier this morning from Auckland, New Zealand. I didn't think I'd get to see much today as it's pretty cloudy. However, the clouds broke and there was as chance to see the transit of Venus across the sun. I used my Nikkor 70-200mm lens with an aperture of f16 and . wait for it . a welding mask!
