It turned out that the Dano was long delayed and the order was eventually canceled, due to some manufacturing problems. I continued with the project as a bass DI. Sunday, July 3, 2011. Grounding and Shielding a Danelectro '63 Baritone. Supposedly the electronics in the original Danelectro guitars were very heavily shielded. When I bought this reissue '63 Dano baritone, I was more than a little disappointed that aside from the "lipstick" pickup covers, the instrument was practically unshielded. Sunday, March 14, 2010. Last Christmas, I got my wife a Creative Zen X-Fi 2. Media player. It came with one game, Sudoku and the Creative labs website didn't have any others to download; recently a little searching showed that they had released an Application Development Kit. For the player. The kit is really just a simulator and a document describing the API. Programming on the X-Fi 2 is done with the text esditor of your choice in Lua. Links to this post. Friday, November 21, 2008. Teaser: Lama Kazu 12PP. It may be a while before concrete evidence of the next electronic project shows up here, but here's a little teaser and progress schematic for the next amplifier, the Lama Kazu 12PP. It will be a 15-ish watt push pull with 6CM6s. For the output (they're 6V6s in noval bottles). The preamp will be:. Gain control - 12AV7. Gain stage (DC-coupled between sections) - Tone stack (Probably BM-Π) - Volume control - Sunn/Dynaco style 6AN8. Links to this post.

Monday, December 1, 2008. Furniture Update: Studio Desk. Here's an update on the Foray into Furniture. The drawer is made with birch plywood prefab drawer sides from Rockler (they come precut to width, with a routed groove for the bottom panel). I used an inexpensive Wolfcraft dovetail jig to make the drawer box. Side mount drawer glides attach to the upper rails. The only screws used are on the drawer glides and to attach the drawer front to the box. This last photo is unrelated to the studio desk. ...

Most of the changes were to reduce the gain, smooth out the overdrive character and clear up some blocking distortion. V2 was changed to an ECC832. JJ's equivalent to 12Dw7. Monday, February 22, 2010. One way or another, the next major project will probably involve microcontrollers. Reconfigurable tube guitar amplifier. Based on the Karplus-Strong algorithm. US Pat 4,649,783. A standalone MIDI synthesizer module, though not necessarily simulating plucked or struck instruments. I'm thinking monophonic, bowed sounds with natural hammered-on slurs. Projects 1 and 2 could use Arduino. Or one of the tiniest PICAXE. Controllers which are easy to program, but 3 would require a DSP.

Wednesday, March 23, 2011. Discrete SS Mini Amp. Do you have a desire to build a fractional-watt miniature solid-state guitar amp? Apparently many people do, since there are several schematics out in the wild on the DIY discussion boards. For some reason, they tend to be built around little "chipamps" like the LM386 and its successors. They work off a 9V battery and are pretty easy to build. Make magazine even featured one version that was assembled into a cracker box. Links to this post.
