Thursday, April 21, 2005. When i grow up i will rant like a big dog. This is one of those times where I wish I had one of those fancy mp3 blogs that all you people no doubt are rushing to check these days, finding out the last word on what songs you might've missed or would've missed if it weren't for a helpful soul out there in front of his (statistically, yes) machine with an axe to grind. 'Cause people, there's some wood that needs a-choppin'. Grab yourself a copy of "Question of Lust" or "Come on Eil...

Tuesday, May 24, 2005. Let's slow things down a bit. And out there for consumption. Today I came across this. Stylus, for better or for worse, goes one step further. There's talk of syncopation. There's talk of sixteenth notes and something called 'I-ii-V' in song structure. Right about there is where I stopped giving a shit. Posted by chris @ 2:41 PM. Tuesday, May 17, 2005. The silver ring thing. Y'ever get the feeling that we as a nation, if not a people, are just getting dumber? Go back to sleep.

A bark in the dark: March 2005

Friday, March 04, 2005. At the encouragement of a friend of mine who shares a similar irrational and unavoidable passion for music, I checked out a copy of the Kings of Leon's new and unfortunately titled album "Aha Shake Heartbreak." I'd heard a little of their work in dribs and drabs when the British steel hype machine had wrapped its sweaty tentacles around the Followill Brothers' narrow hips and declared them "The Southern Strokes! Southernerns have every right to make straightahead rock too, people&...

Friday, February 25, 2005. The sprout and the bean. If you could spare it, could I get just a little bit more harp in the monitor, please? Joanna Newsom asks from the stage, her eyes cast upward to the soundman in the back of the room. Someone in the crowd yelps in delight. It's Newsom's second request to hear more of her instrument, and it's the second time a portion of the audience has celebrated her wants. She smiles sheepishly. "That's, um, just so I can hear it.". Each song was greeted with rapturou...

Saturday, January 29, 2005. As he passes 33. It's okay. I dont' miss my 20s for the most part, but it's strange to see them and remember them very clearly as they're behind me. Does that make sense? In two days I'll be 33, a fine number and a full embrace of my 30s. Welcome. Posted by chris @ 10:09 AM. Sunday, January 23, 2005. Sao Paolo is a lovely in the spring. Today I watched football. A bark in the dark: September 2005
http://abarkinthedark.blogspot.com/2005_09_01_archive.html
Tuesday, September 20, 2005. It's raining today here in Southern California, an occurrence that isn't just rare, it's practically unheard of in September. If some of the scary, polar bear-damning stories I've been reading about global warming are true, is this not a manifestation of it? Really, is it worth sending a talking head out on a damp street corner if said weather phenomena is much less a rare happening is it worth analyzing from every angle? Posted by chris @ 9:22 AM. Tuesday, November 29, 2005. No, c'mon, how does it feel? What is Greil Marcus talking about. I guess when you reach a certain point of esteem in the rock crit business you can chase your own tail about whatever documentary you want, regardless of whether you have a point. I enjoyed "No Direction Home." If anyone can tell me if ol' Greil did or not, I'd love to hear it. More new/old music tomorrow. Posted by chris @ 8:42 AM. Monday, November 07, 2005. Thank you easter bunny! But who cares at this point?

Tuesday, April 25, 2006. The serpent swallows its tail in reverse. Interesting post over at Coolfer. OK, I think I sussed out maybe half of that, and that probably puts me ahead of Bemis. What this means is both of us are probably not the biggest of hip-hop fans (guilty! And that this story isn't written for anyone but the biggest of fans of the genre, in which case.what is it hoping to accomplish sitting out there for general consumption? Is this the blogosphere's and (by extension) Pitchfork's. Took a ...
