Horn, Boulder, Gun. The road eventually reaches the East Fork of the Salmon road, which I had been picturing as a somewhat rough dirt road. So I was rather dismayed to see it nicely paved. Dromedary and Cottonwood Ridge. As has become typical for the late summer/early fall, our lab went on a big, ambitious hike – sometimes know as a Sperry Death March. On this occasion, the plan was to head up the Broad’s Fork trail, ascend Dromedary Peak and then head east on the Cottonwood Ridge that separates Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons before dropping down to Lake Blanche and returning via that trail. We even found a big patch of raspberries. The peak served as a nice lunch spot (hardly any wind!

Going to Moab each President’s Day weekend always holds the prospect of nice, snow-free weather and adventure through the redrock. But there’s also the prospect of dealing with a couple dozen people who want to do all different things in different places and with different people. I guess I fit into that group too: I want canyons with obstacles and route-finding and I want a few people who are game with that. The route heads up the wide drainage below the gulch which is a lot of unattractive wasteland.
