David Sheppard bought his first telescope at the age of 15. It was a 4 Dynascope that is still in use. In 1979 he bought a 10 Cave Astrola that is also still operational. He recently purchased a 20 Dobsonian telescope from Obsession Telescopes. During 2002-3 he was NASA JPL's Solar System Ambassador for southwestern New Mexico. He taught astronomy at NMSU-Carlsbad for one semester. Currently he is forcibly retired because of a long struggle with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.
About the Obsession Telescope

The 20 telescope was purchased from Obsession Telescopes. Which is owned and operated by Dave Kriege, the well-known Dobsonian telescope manufacturer and author. In Lake Mills, Wisconsin. The telescope is a Newtonian reflector with a 20 inch primary mirror and a 3.1 inch secondary (diagonal). The mount is a Dobsonian, which was invented by the amateur astronomer John Dobson. Telescope rocker box and mirror box ready for transport with the wheelbarrow handles.
Initial Setup

Initial setup of the 20 Dobsonian Telescope was occurred on 31 Mar 05 without the secondary mirror. A rudimentary checkout of the ServoCAT was accomplished, but the setup of the Argo Navis wasn't possible without being able to view stars. After the replacement secondary arrived, the telescope was collimated and an alignment was attempted. However, the Argo Navis was found to be defective. After it was replaced the telescope has functioned perfectly.

The Obsession 20 Dobsonian Telescope was delivered by UPS at approximately 4pm on March 28, 2005. This was about six weeks before the delivery date promised by Dave Kriege. I had to fight with UPS because they left two of the packages behind at the warehouse and wanted to deliver them the next day. I convinced them to deliver the all the same day as promised. After a consultation, they agreed. UPS shipping cost $625.00.
