To obtain the necessary funds to support these organisations the Club has some major fund raising activities, including:. Build and raffle a playhouse each year. Run a book fair in association with other local Lions Clubs. Sell firewood and pine cones. Sell Lions Christmas cakes. Run a bowls gala. Run a Duck Race on the Waikanae river*. It is a group of mostly retired men and women aged 55 years and upward who seek involvement for the benefit of the community and for socialising with like minded people. Kapiti Pakeke Lions Club. Playhouse. Book Fair, Duck Race. Buy Duck Race Tickets. The Pakeke Lions Club built and raffled a large playhouse last year which was drawn on 8 December 2014. The winner was a lady from Paraparaumu who had no use for the playhouse and asked the Lions Club to sell it on her behalf and donate the net proceeds to the Life Flight Trust the original beneficiaries of the raffle. Our team consisted of Peter Cresswell, Peter Jones and Bill Moffatt. The winners team consisted of the winner, her husband, her father and her mother. Kapiti Pakeke Lions Club. Playhouse. Book Fair, Duck Race. Buy Duck Race Tickets. Duck Race 2015 – Fun Day. Was held on 1st February 2015. Otaihanga Reserve, Otaihanga. The Duck Race consists of 1,000 rubber ducks racing a 2,000 metre stretch of the Waikanae River. The ducks are dropped from the footbridge, caught in a net and then let off all at once.
