Amy is a PhD student at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. She studies short- and long-term changes in cetacean population structure, and how those changes relate to the effect of climate change on oceanography and ecosystem dynamics. As an interdisciplinary student with the Center for Marine Biodiversity and Conservation, Amy is studying the integration of local environmental knowledge into research, management and policy decisions regarding marine resources. The Slow Crawl Towards Paris. Written by Natalya on. Delegates negotiating the text of the ADP in the Chamber Hall. Entrance to the new World Conference Center in Bonn, Germany. ADP negotiations are sometimes interrupted by calls for consultation of all nations within a certain umbrella group or coalition, as can be seen here with the group of negotiators standing in the corner. The sun sets over the Rhine River with little overall progress to show for the day in terms of ADP negotiations.

Ocean Acidification

http://www.oceanscientists.org/index.php/topics/ocean-acidification

What is Ocean Acidification? Ocean acidification is the process of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the air being absorbed by the oceans and causing significant changes in seawater chemistry. Anthropogenic ocean acidification describes the uptake of excess human-produced CO2 by the oceans, a process that causes arise in seawater acidity. Here are the basic facts about ocean acidification:. This has caused an increase of 30% in surface ocean acidity. How are marine organisms affected? While early research has show...

Ocean Deoxygenation

http://www.oceanscientists.org/index.php/topics/ocean-deoxygenation

Why is Oxygen Important to Life in the Ocean? What is Ocean Deoxygenation? How Are Humans Lowering the Oxygen Levels in the Ocean? Oxygen content in the water is dependent on photosynthesis (produces oxygen), animal respiration (uses oxygen), and physical mixing. Ocean warming is reducing global ocean oxygen content through several key mechanisms (Keeling et al. 2010) including:. Biological effects: Changes to the biological use and production of oxygen can lead to changes in oxygen content in the water&...

Western Cape, South Africa 2015. In the spring of 2015 I conducted fieldwork and data gathering in the Western Cape province of South Africa. I even ended up hanging out in a local ANC (the ruling party) headquarters on a by-election day, chatting with their officeholders and candidate about campaign strategy, inequality, climate change policy, race, and all sorts of interesting topics. My colleague Brigitte Zimmerman. And I, funded by the Center for Effective Global Action. I traveled the Baja Peninsula...

SSF Best Practices SUBMISSIONS. November 14, 2014. November 14, 2014. Climate Change and Small-scale Fisheries. One of the great tragedies of climate change is that it will severely impact those who had very little to do with causing the problem. Natural resource-dependent communities – such as small-scale fisheries – in developing nations face a number of ongoing and potential future threats caused by the actions of developed countries. So, when a fellow CMBC. For translating into Spanish! You are comme...
