Het is stil, de vogels fluiten. Ik zit wat te lezen onder een grote boom en kijk af en toe uit over het meer dat voor me ligt. Ineens meen ik dat er iets beweegt. Ik kijk op en daar ligt, enkele meters voor mij, een grote krokodil in het ondiepe water. Zo komt "Afrika" toch wel erg dichtbij. Ik had nog net de tijd een foto te maken, daarna was hij weer verdwenen in het meer. Wat een geweldige reis. Wat een unieke reis! Het enige wat ik wilde, was terugkeren naar Afrika. We waren er nog niet eens vertrokken en toch was ik, als ik ’s nachts slapeloos lag te luisteren, al ziek van heimwee.’. Het Keniaanse landschap wordt vooral gekenmerkt door savannen: uitgestrekte velden begroeid met gras, kleine struiken en schermacacia’s, doorsneden door rivieren met bossen langs de oevers. In Kenia vind je tevens een unieke dierenwereld waaronder leeuwen, buffels, olifanten, gnoes, zebra’s, luipaarden, neushoorns en nijlpaarden.

Het Kongasis Christian Education Center (KACECE) ligt in de Rift Valley in Kenia, in het Kericho district. Het project is gestart om het leven van de lokale bevolking te verbeteren door goed onderwijs te geven dat gebaseerd is op de Afrikaanse traditie en op christelijke principes. De drie personen die deze culturele reizen mogelijk maken zijn Adam, Peter en Nell. We zijn bekend met de Afrikaanse cultuur en ervaren met het organiseren en begeleiden van reizen. We werken ieder vanuit een andere interesse en ervaring, maar hebben wel dezelfde filosofie. Die zullen we eerst beschrijven, daarna stellen we ons voor. Als je gaat kijken naar deze andere waarden als sociale omgang, respectvolheid,gastvrijheid en zorgzaamheid, dan kunnen we veel leren van deze door ons 'arm' genoemde landen.
