The Odessa Historisches Museum, founded in April 1971 by John E. Gahringer, Jr. M.D., is situated in the heart of the Big Bend Wheat Country. The museum tells the story of the settlement and development of the towns and surrounding countryside by hardy pioneers, who were primarily of German-Russian ancestory. September 28, 2014. The Marlin Presbyterian Church has gifted many of their furnishings to the museum s St. Matthews church, after closing their doors in the fall of 2013. The gifts included an altar, baptismal, and guest book stand built by Ray Gilbertson, Odessa s former mayor, and a selection of beautiful curved oak pews which are believed to have been originally used in a church in Ruff. Odessa Historisches Museum was conceived in 1970 and incorporated in 1971 with the establishment of an historical society to serve the Southwest Lincoln County area. As a physician, new to the Odessa area, Dr. John F.
