Forensic consultation is a more recent interest of Dr. Greenspan's, and grew out of the need for experts in Intellectual Disabilities, particularly those knowledgeable about Adaptive Behavior (social and practical competencies not tapped by IQ), who are willing and able to testify in so-called Atkins hearings to determine possible exemption from capital punishment by defendants with cognitive impairments. Although the majority of his referrals have come from Defense attorneys, Dr. Greenspan has functioned as a neutral Court-appointed expert and has also been contacted by Prosecuting attorneys.
