of the kosmos: April 2009
http://ofthekosmos.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
Academia, culture, literature, nature, opera. Monday, April 06, 2009. Kiri Te Kanawa interview on SIRIUS tonight (and other things). Does anyone know where I can find a recording of the Kiri Te Kanawa interview that took place during the first intermission of Die Walküre. I would really appreciate it! I haven't made time for blogging lately (couldn't you tell? But maybe I'll get back to it. Funny, when I have time to do it, I have nothing to report. I had been eager to hear Saariaho's Mirage. Seeing the ...

Academia, culture, literature, nature, opera. Tuesday, September 23, 2008. Not My Typical Ovation Shot. I stopped posting the good ones on here anyway (I'm selfish - though I do share them with Facebook friends) - but I think this is a pretty great one, given the conditions under which it was taken. I was so far away! Could I just say that Mike Silverman from the Associated Press shouldn't have been allowed in the Met tonight? Because clearly he spent the evening with his head up his ass, as this review.
of the kosmos: January 2008
http://ofthekosmos.blogspot.com/2008_01_01_archive.html
Academia, culture, literature, nature, opera. Thursday, January 31, 2008. Want to know how things have changed? I have, somewhere in my condo, two front-row-center tickets to Kiri Te Kanawa's recital in Palm Beach. The event took place last night. I was in Cambridge, Mass. I don't regret having missed Kiri's recital. This from someone who used to say that the worst thing to happen in his life was oversleeping in his hotel room and missing Karita Mattila's recital in Paris. Links to this post. Cité de la ...
of the kosmos: Renée Fleming and Gerald Finley in Thaïs at the Châtelet

Academia, culture, literature, nature, opera. Monday, April 16, 2007. Renée Fleming and Gerald Finley in Thaïs. Nicolas Courjal (Palémon), Gerald Finley (Athanaël), Renée Fleming (Thaïs), Christoph Eschenbach (conductor), and Philippe Aïche (violin solo) during curtain calls following the first of three performances at the Châtelet in Paris this week. I took this photo. Please credit me and link to this post if you use it anywhere. The desperation was palpable, and her voice was simply dripping with erot...

Afternoon Concert: Kurt Magnus Atterberg
http://afternoonconcert.blogspot.com/2008/02/kurt-magnus-atterberg_07.html
I wake up each day with a piece in my head and wonder what motive lurks behind its selection. Thursday, February 7, 2008. Kurt Magnus Atterberg, born in Göteborg on December 12, 1887, is perhaps the greatest composer you've never heard of. (Yes, that ends in a preposition, because it sounds better than "of whom you've never heard.") By the time he died, he had composed five operas, nine symphonies, eight suites, five concerti, two ballets, and numerous chamber works. So why have they disappeared? I was f...

A fish out of water. Friday, February 25, 2011. Thanks, Chelsea. I appreciate everything you do for me and you are a real pleasure to work with and have around. Sometimes it is OK to cry.". That's my boss comforting. Services will no longer be needed after June 31st. She remained composed as I sat in front of her and cried. * CRIED. And before she left work at 7:00PM on a Friday, she popped her head in to say, ". Going to be OK," hinting that I will still have a job come affiliation time.
a fish out of water: I Wish You (a very belated) Christmas
http://chelsealately.blogspot.com/2011/01/i-wish-you-very-belated-christmas.html
A fish out of water. Monday, January 3, 2011. I Wish You (a very belated) Christmas. I'm not a huge fan of the Christmas jingle. We Wish You A Merry Christmas. It just never quite did it for me like. Or Neil Diamond's rockin' version of. Santa Claus is Coming to Town. It seemed so pedestrian and somewhat juvenile. The song always reminded me of grade school Christmas pageants and being yelled at by the music teacher to politely "wish" not "wishhhhhhh" or "wooosssshhhh" a Merry Christmas. Other Fish to Fry.

Afternoon Concert: The Sitar and the Orchestra
http://afternoonconcert.blogspot.com/2008/02/sitar-and-orchestra.html
I wake up each day with a piece in my head and wonder what motive lurks behind its selection. Saturday, February 16, 2008. The Sitar and the Orchestra. World music is a current fixation of classical music, with many especially younger classical musicians signing with world music/classical fusion groups. But before there was the Silk Road, and before the Kronos Quartet was performing Near- and Far- eastern inspired music. Is a true confrontation, it's not. East meeting West as some musicians or composers ...

a fish out of water: Lett's See DC (and NY): One Last Hurrah
http://chelsealately.blogspot.com/2010/04/letts-see-dc-and-ny-one-last-hurrah.html
A fish out of water. Tuesday, April 6, 2010. Lett's See DC (and NY): One Last Hurrah. I brought my Mom back to DC with me after Christmas. We spent a few days gallivanting around the Nation's Capital before a quick trip to the Big Apple. I coaxed Mom into writing up her experience, and what you will get is a six part mini-series of the Mother Fish Out of Water. And let me tell you what, she was out of water! Chelsea made plans to meet her opera buddies Sarah. I think it was Pigalle). Nor what I ate. ...

Vegan tour of Adelaide. Saturday, October 10, 2015. Raw&More Cafe- Grange Road, Findon. Monday, October 5, 2015. The OzAsia Night Noodle Markets is how I met Mai. Held around the Adelaide Festival Centre, the Night Noodle Market consisted of at least 20 different stalls each with their own delicious looking food for offer. Walking passed Mai Kitchen Vietnamese Cuisine, I got excited when I saw the words 'vegan' and 'satay' together. The food was great and the people were friendly. Sunday, October 4, 2015.

The Korean War
Monday, March 28, 2005. Lost Homes and lands destroyed. Those that had died had died, and those that were wounded were wounded for life. It was a battle, a civil war, between North Korea and South Korea in 1950- 1953. This. Was known as the Korean War. A civil war so great that they may never be reunited. Again Why did they separate? Why did they still continue to fight after World war II? Had they learnt nothing? Were there any external pressures for the cause of their fight? I wonder You too? On Octobe...
