Hiking barefoot can be done safely. It is not much different from hiking in shoes. Some simple safety rules:. Look where you are stepping. This doesn't mean you need to always look straight down, but scan the trail in front of you for hazards. Do not land hard on your heels. Step straight down when necessary. Try to keep your weight on the balls of your feet. Stay on clear trails when possible. Keep your tetanus immunization current. Always carry plenty of water. Some of the areas we hike are in or near ...

Hiking is good aerobic exercise for everyone. Walking over uneven terrain strengthens muscles from the feet up to the lower back. Medical studies have shown that wearing shoes often results in landing hard on the heels. This can result in damage to ankles, knees, hips and the back. Walking barefoot is naturally a more gentle motion that is easier on those joints. There have been numerous studies on the effects of shoes on human physiology. Shoes not only have an impact on the feet, but on ankles, kne...

Society for Barefoot Living. Free your feet, and your mind will follow. April 12, 2011. Have you ever read a novel where the hero is barefoot for a while but in the end is “saved” by some fortuitous footwear? As a daily rail commuter I do a lot of reading and in the late 90s became so frustrated by stories like these I decided to write my own! Released in 2004 under the Zeus Publications imprint. 8220;Ahcuah” comes from the Aztec language (Nahuatl). I use it because of a remarkable coincidence (with an unfortunately long explanation). My last name, “Neinast”, is a German name. If you break it down, it looks like “nein-ast”. “Nein” is German for “no”, and “ast” means “branch”. Ligature. A search reveals other people in Pomerania (where my great-grandparents came from) with the last name “Neinaß”, so it is a legitimate name. Now, switch gears and look at Nahuatl. South German: probably from a topog...

Laquo; Saturday Comic. 10:27 am, May 11, 2015 by Bob Neinast. On Saturday I was privileged to participate in a program to visit Glenford Fort in Perry County. It wasn’t much of a hike (with an easy 200-foot ascent to the top of a hill), but it was a great chance to view an ancient hilltop enclosure. While the registration information for the program stressed “sturdy hiking shoes are a must,” I went with the sturdiest kind of footwear I know. (Barefoot.). We even got free food! If you look at a topographi...
