Space 24: November 2008

http://www.ohthesis.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html

Wednesday, November 19, 2008. In downtown Los Angeles the square footage allotted for parked cars nearly triples that allotted for public use. Space 24 is a redesign of an existing parking lot into a public space that functions 24 hours a day. The conversion of a massive parking lot into a multifunctional space that retains its function of parking and adds site-specific programming will renew the dull landscape of urban vehicles. Saturday, November 15, 2008. 1) Jogging path Stretching Zone.

Saturday, November 15, 2008. Space 24 is an outdoor public space which is open to the public 24 hours a day in downtown Los Angeles. Currently, the area of parking spaces clearly doubles and possibly triples the area of public space. This space is planned for the incredibly diverse population of Los Angeles: from children to the elderly, the business man to the homeless man, the Asians to the African American. 1) Jogging path Stretching Zone. 4) Semi indoor/outdoor restaurant bar. 3) Ideal to choose some...

Space 24: Initial Thoughts?

Saturday, September 13, 2008. Hoping that something will eventually inspire me. 1) Furniture in the public realm. How do the objects we use in the public sphere differ from those of our personal living spaces? 2) Architecture for home health and assisted living. Are institutional nursing homes the correct solution? 3) shipping ports, containers, and docks. Large docks are many times unoccupied or unused. Can a solution be implemented to make the docks into a multifunctional space? D And what might the de...

City In The Sky. Thursday, September 18, 2008. Questions to ask myself. So,  I think I'm going to try and stick to the city in the sky theme/topic.and see where it takes me. Here are a few questions I think need answering/further research:. 1 how did towers come to be? Historically - babel till present). 2 why were towers built the way they were? 3 what is the value of open space/recreational space? 4 what were some of the architects of the modern age's visions? Education, earth, and architecture. Wednesday, October 1, 2008. Some thoughts on earth construction. I began a some of my research on earth construction as a building material and here are some of the things I found out. You can build with earth in three ways:. 1 Mud brick/ adobe: unbaked bricks (these could be used for walls, vaulting, etc). 2 Soil block: Compressed, unbaked brick. Apparently some criteria that could be considered when design for earth are:. High humidity regulation and absorption.
