Aboard… and before! On July 29th at 9am when we arrived to the port the truck with all the equipment necessary for the research vessel was there already. Inside the truck were the items which made possible make a lab inside the vessel. It was hard to make this possible, but they got it. This is the lab where the samples are analyzed. People there, are looking for the tracer (CF3SF3) , the quantity of tracer they find on each sampling is the stream direction they have to look for. Siguiente entrada →.

The end …. coming soon! Well, we are arriving to the station 89, the last one of this cruise, and you know what? I don’t wanna leave this ship, this has been an awesome experience. The cruise has been successful, the science party and the crew have been working hard for getting it. The results are successful too, everybody here has gotten enough samples and good data. Archivos Mensuales: julio 2013. We will be aboard the R/V Pelican for 4 weeks, it will take place from July 31st to August 27th in the Gulf of Mexico, from Cocodrie to Cocodrie, Louisiana. The objectives of the cruise are to sample the distribution of the tracer trifluoromethyl sulfur pentafluoride (CF. Which was released one year before along the continental slope to the east of the Mississippi canyon, and to survey hydrography and chemistry of the Gulf of Mexico. On August 6th the port shaft broke on R/V Pelican, but don’t worry the Pelican is still flying! People here knows how to solve problems we could have, two guys of the crew dived into the sea water for fixing it, nevertheless it needs to be checked minutely, thats why we are headed to Port Fourchon, to a place called “Golden Meadows”, to get it repaired. Well, I has been long since the last time I wrote here. We did not have wifi for a while, smartphones can not be used because of the automatic updates. We were on Brownsville, Texas. My shipmates had to get their mexican visas , which nobody nows when will be needed, but mexican consulate asked them to get it. I’m sure that the best sunrise I’ve ever seen was here, it was better than how I could ever imagine, I guess some of the people here are not surprised, because as time passed, we lose the ability of being surprised, but for me its a new experience, everything its amazing. Meanwhile… | ∞ All Aboard ∞

Big efforts by the crew to install a new shaft, a more extensive repair was needed, so we stayed at the port more time. We had time to go to the beach, for some “milkshakes” and some went to New Orleans, I think everybody had fun. Now we are working harder, the stations are closer one to each other. We are getting data along the slope on the way to Brownsville,. The flat sea has gone D: We have to be more careful wit the CTD, for handle it we have to use lines, it not an easy feat.
