After intensive investigation into how you make sticky rice sticky, I found the secret! I'll be rolling sushi in no time. No I won't. I don't even like sushi. Why would I waste my time? Here's one secret I'll reveal and don't expect many more. Okinawa Mama's (that's me) Perfect Sticky Rice (every time). 2 1/2 cups water. 1/2 tsp. salt. This will yield 4 cups.

A lot of you may not have known that there was a new addition to the family. Happy Birthday to me, Happy Birthday to me. I got an ankle-biter! I swore I would never do it and I did. We got a chihuahua. His name is Napoleon. Why did we name him that? Because this dog has the biggest Napoleon complex. Of any living creature I've ever seen.

Our first stop was at a sugarcane factory where they showed us how they process the cane into sugar. I've noticed from the tours I've taken how antiquated the machinery is here. The Franklins In Japan. Friday, August 6, 2010. Starting off our last year. Can you believe we have been here a little over 2 years? Actually I can, it feels like 5 to me! We have less than one year to go until we're back in America; as my cousin once said, "Land of the free, home of the brave.and Target! I am so thankful John was there to take care of me! The next day my ankle swelled to epic proportions! Fortunately I can walk normally now and the swelling has gone down! Everyone had a great time.

The Franklins In Japan. Friday, June 4, 2010. The luau we went to was one of my favorite parts of our trip. We made reservations a few weeks in advance because it is the oldest, most popular one on the island. We were greeted with gorgeous real leis and a mai tai. Before it started we had an opportunity to walk around, take a few pictures and enjoy the scenery. A little later a crowd formed around a huge pit. They cook the pig under the ground and it is essentially steamed for hours.

The ongoing Pacific Adventures of the ever-mobile Langley ohana. Friday, January 9, 2009. I'm blessed to work with a lot of friendly, interesting people here. Tracey is a reservist associated with our office. Her other job is with the Office of Hawaiian Affairs. She's the one who first told us about Waimea Valley. We finally got our schedules together so she could have dinner with the family. We didn't mean to make her 'sing for her supper,' but the first thing she did when Matthew showed her the ukulele.
