Oklahomegrownveg: 2010-07-11

http://oklahomegrownveg.blogspot.com/2010_07_11_archive.html

A personal record of my attempts to grow good, healthy and nutritious vegetables here in Northeastern Oklahoma. Sunday, July 11, 2010. Plenty of both sun and rain at the moment. Light show courtesy of Mother Nature. Yes, July has started out both hot and wet. We have had some pretty high temperatures but not as bad as some years. Many thunderstorms have passed over us too. Forcing Alvin to take shelter on the kitchen windowsill at short notice a few times. High winds have buffeted the region too. I have ...

A personal record of my attempts to grow good, healthy and nutritious vegetables here in Northeastern Oklahoma. Sunday, September 13, 2009. Waking at 5-00am and rising at 6-30am. It's noticeably cooler today here in Oklahomegrownvegland. One could almost say "pleasant". Even cool cats like Alvin here. Enjoy a bit of a rest from the heat. It also means that the Happy Gardener can get some outdoor tasks done. First on the list is to deal with the Persimmon tree which was (I presume) struck by lightning.

A personal record of my attempts to grow good, healthy and nutritious vegetables here in Northeastern Oklahoma. Sunday, June 14, 2009. More bad news about the Persimmon Trees. As I mentioned earlier I discovered that one seems to have been killed by a lightning strike. Well, during the inspection of the strickened. Tree I noticed this. At the bottom of one of the two remaining trees. Some kind of rot, similar to that which has affected two of the Redbud. Bad thunderstorm, preceded. It was heartbreaking t...

A personal record of my attempts to grow good, healthy and nutritious vegetables here in Northeastern Oklahoma. Friday, April 23, 2010. The grass has riz. I wonder where old Herbie is? Well, I'll tell you where he is. Both front wheel bearings were found to be completely shot. Major repairs are underway. At least I got the grass cut. Afore he got pulled in pieces. Phew! In the veggie plots the Egyptian Onions which wintered out are back in full force. The white onions are also showing good signs of growth.

http://oklahomegrownveg.blogspot.com/2010_06_13_archive.html

A personal record of my attempts to grow good, healthy and nutritious vegetables here in Northeastern Oklahoma. Monday, June 14, 2010. Quite a heavy downpour today in Oklahomegrownvegland and there's a chance of a further 7 inches of rain heading our way. This, as you can see, seems to have put a dent in Tommy's hunting plans for the evening and he's not too pleased. OK, a look around the back garden first to see how things are coming along. To the left, the White Onions are filling out. I scattered a fe...

Urban Garden Hoe: Seedy Saturday and Baby Chives

http://urbangardenhoe.blogspot.com/2010/02/seedy-saturday-and-baby-chives.html

A DIY gardening blog, kept by an urban girl with a taste for green. Tuesday, February 9, 2010. Seedy Saturday and Baby Chives. This past Saturday, some friends and I got together for a seed exchange. We each brought whatever extra seeds we had, which amounted to a lot since we are all just backyard gardeners. Each person put their seed packets in a bowl and I set out coin envelopes. You can put your plants outside on nice, sunny days (not that we have any just yet! Thats such a cute pot. Do you know ...

A DIY gardening blog, kept by an urban girl with a taste for green. Saturday, January 30, 2010. Alpine Strawberries from Seed (Kit). Speaking of cute kits, Target has these adorable little strawberry growing kits (as well as flower kits) in their dollar section for Valentine's Day. I've picked these up a couple years in a row, and they're pretty cool. but they're also an example of how a kit could result in frustration for a first-time gardener. It can be done, but you have. It comes with a teeny tiny.

Urban Garden Hoe: December 2009

http://urbangardenhoe.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html

A DIY gardening blog, kept by an urban girl with a taste for green. Thursday, December 24, 2009. Listening to the sleet and ice at the windows, my thoughts are already turning to Spring. Last gardening season was a dud. and it was mostly my fault. My garden tends to reflect what's going on in my life, and things weren't so great emotionally. When I start neglecting myself because of depression or stress, I also start neglecting my plants. I also think I'll invest in a little extra lighting for my seedlin...

http://urbangardenhoe.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html

A DIY gardening blog, kept by an urban girl with a taste for green. Tuesday, June 16, 2009. Gardening with Children; a Guest Post. This is a special post for Urban Garden Hoe: a guest post on gardening with children from a good friend of mine, Sara. Sara is fairly new to gardening and had a fair number of questions this Spring, but she has really taken to square foot gardening. and she does it with far more style than I! But this DIY craze runs deep and wide, and growing your own is worth reconsidering.

Urban Garden Hoe: My Gardening Sidekick!

http://urbangardenhoe.blogspot.com/2014/04/my-gardening-sidekick.html

A DIY gardening blog, kept by an urban girl with a taste for green. Saturday, April 19, 2014. Long time no see! I'm not one for ceremony, so let's jump in. I've done pretty much no gardening in the past few years. Chronic disease, babies, new home. I had a lot going on. But now our first son is old enough to find plants interesting, so it's like a whole new world! I had him help me get the old (REALLY old! It's such a wonderful teaching opportunity! Since he can't read yet, I made special plant markers: ...

Grand Lake Ink: February 2009

http://grandlakeink.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html

Sunday, February 15, 2009. There’s a Virus About. Today, on a quiet Sunday stroll around the Interweb, I was suddenly interrupted by a message, allegedly from Microsoft, warning me that several of my computer files were corrupted with a virus. It also told me to download software to clear the virus. This time, I looked at the web address where the message originated – there was no mention of Microsoft. I ought to have made a note of it, but didn’t. Sorry! Toodle Pip for now. Sunday, February 8, 2009.

I’m sorry to read in the comments that several of you are also have teething troubles, you have my complete sympathy. I have to go back to the periodontist on Tuesday to have my bite corrected. This will mean 3 hours in the chair having my teeth ground into alignment, followed by a hefty bill. I can hardly wait. :-(. A while ago, Gill, at. ANNIE PROULX, I...

Grand Lake Ink: June 2008

http://grandlakeink.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html

Sunday, June 29, 2008. I've been having a lot of pain in my neck and shoulders for the past few days, I think it's the result of all the time I've been spending on the computer. I wrote the draft for this post the good old-fashioned way using pen and paper, just to give myself a break from the infernal machine. I've never read anything of his before, but Mick highly recommended it. It's also a lovely day for sitting outdoors. One of those rare days here in NE Oklahoma, where the temperature is not to...

A personal record of my attempts to grow good, healthy and nutritious vegetables here in Northeastern Oklahoma. Sunday, July 25, 2010. And the boys are drawn to the "cooler" concrete of the garage floor. These hot days are interspersed with heavy downpours and thunderstorms. After the storms abate the heat gets worse due to the humidity. This really is an awful time of the year. I had a new visitor in the back garden the other afternoon. In the form of a Groundhog, a pretty big one too. And here it is.
