The Old Phoenix - a photo gallery. In 2010 two sea turtles (. Came to live in our bay. This probably has to do with the fact that we go fishing every day and when we come back and clean the nets there is always quite a bit of food that gets thrown back into the water. The turtles know the sound of the boat engine and are mostly around and waiting when the boat comes back. The turtles don't stay in the bay in the winter (maybe because we don't fish there in the winter? But they came back in the spring 2011.

How to get to Loutro and the Old Phoenix. Map of West Crete. The Old Phoenix is situated in the bay of Finix, 15 minutes on foot west of Loutro. Loutro can be reached by boat or ferryboat from Hora Sfakion (also called Sfakia). Alternatively it is possible to walk along the coast (2 hours from Hora Sfakion) or on a path winding down from the village of Anopolis (a little over an hour). Loutro can also be reached by boat from Paleochora, Sougia and Agia Roumeli. You can see all the ferries time-tables here.

In the centre of the complex, directly above the water is a shaded terrace where meals and refreshments are served all day. The Old Phoenix rooms and restaurant is situated in one of the most beautiful and unspoilt regions of southwest Crete, in the bay of Finix, about 15 minutes walk from the picturesque village of Loutro. We are a small family business which has grown slowly over the past four decades and built a solid core of regular customers who visit us year after year for their holiday on Crete.
