http://oldblogs.jamesbaquet.com/2009_05_01_archive.html
More in the Library. Stuff I've posted elsewhere. More about these pages. Wednesday, May 27, 2009. The Internet is littered with my former blogs. This summer, I'll be pulling them all in under this roof; Until then, you can find some of my detritus:. The former JamesBaquet.com. As I get these moved, I'll be tearing down the old sites. If you can't find something from a link here, it's probably because it's now somewhere on the shiny new JamesBaquet.com. Everything on these pages is 2009 by James Baquet.

Articles: from the Library at JamesBaquet.com: Articles (and stuff)
http://articles.jamesbaquet.com/2009/05/articles-and-stuff.html
More in the Library. An archive of things I've written. More about the articles. Wednesday, May 27, 2009. I've been writing since before I can remember. This facility got me through university with a minimum of hassle (so why'd it take six years? In this collection you'll find old school papers, articles I've written for magazines, pieces of unfinished books, and the stuff I've recovered from other websites I've operated. Longer pieces will link out to archives elsewhere on the net for easier viewing.
Articles: from the Library at JamesBaquet.com: July 2009
http://articles.jamesbaquet.com/2009_07_01_archive.html
More in the Library. An archive of things I've written. More about the articles. Saturday, July 4, 2009. A Lifetime Reading List a la Joseph Campbell. This reading list was developed by Joseph Campbell for his Mythology class at Sarah Lawrence College. It was published in Appendix 2 of The Mythic Dimension. Edited by Antony Van Couvering. Campbell replied by saying that she had misunderstood him. The list wasn't meant to be read that semester; they had the rest of their lives to read it! I did in Japan.
Articles: from the Library at JamesBaquet.com: Transparent to Transcendence
http://articles.jamesbaquet.com/2009/06/transparent-to-transcendence.html
More in the Library. An archive of things I've written. More about the articles. Thursday, June 25, 2009. Several years ago, I had a blog in which I re-published some of my more interesting correspondence. One of the letters I published there was regarding the phrase used by Joseph Campbell, Transparent to Transcendence. As of this date, if you Google that phrase, my crappy old blog is the first to come up. Still, the article gives several perspectives on the meaning of this phrase. It's worth a look.

More in the Library. An archive of things I've written. More about the articles. Sunday, June 28, 2009. Back in late July of 2007, I posted several journal entries about our wedding, including how we met, the days leading up to it, the wedding itself, and the honeymoon and subsequent parties. With very little change, I have now published the same article as a PDF that you can download. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Search all of JamesBaquet.com. Subscribe in a feed reader. Buddhism Simplified: A Wisdom Blog at JamesBaquet.com: King Bimbasara
http://buddhism.jamesbaquet.com/2009/08/king-bimbasara.html
Brief notes on Buddhist thought and practice. More about these pages. Prince Siddhartha, now a mendicant, turned his steps to the south. He reached the country of Maghada, and the capital city of Rajagaha. Here he continued to beg for alms. When Bimbasara's son returned with news that this extraordinary mendicant was indeed Prince Siddhartha, King Bimbasara was so amazed that he decided to go meet Prince Siddhartha for himself. Bimbasara, thinking this was extraordinary, offered him a place to stay in Bi...

At the Feet of Sri Ramakrishna: A Wisdom Blog at JamesBaquet.com: From a Scrawl to a Fine Hand
http://ramakrishna.jamesbaquet.com/2009/08/from-scrawl-to-fine-hand.html
Finding wisdom for our everyday lives in the words of one of India's greatest saints. More about Sri Ramakrishna. From a Scrawl to a Fine Hand. A boy begins to learn writing by drawing big scrawls, before he can master a finer hand. So we must learn concentration of the mind by fixing it first on forms; and when we have attained success at that, we can more easily fix it upon the formless. See the notes to " A Bell Rings With and Without Form. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Subscribe in a feed reader.

Finding wisdom for our everyday lives in the words of one of India's greatest saints. More about Sri Ramakrishna. Indian holy man Sri Ramakrishna (1836-1886) was a mystic who saw the Truth behind all religions. His teachings led to the creation of the Vedanta Society. In this page, I will share many of these sayings, with some simple reflections on their meaning. I hope that his words will come through as clear to us in English as they did to his Bengali listeners. You can read a brief biography. The fir...
Aphorisms of a Derelict Yogi: A Wisdom Blog at JamesBaquet.com: July 2009
http://derelict.jamesbaquet.com/2009_07_01_archive.html
Sayings of a modern mystic who was down-on-his-luck. More about the Yogi. If all the other clocks are wrong.". If all the other clocks are wrong, you best be callin' 'Time'". The Yogi said that a lot of people made a hobby of finding fault with others, basically trying to show their superiority and that they were "right" while everybody else was wrong. Calling "Time" would be a reality check. When you hear, "At the tone, the time will be." you can reset your "watch" to the way things really are. People a...

Blogging from the Old Blighty
Blogging from the Old Blighty. Grandma and I are travelling to London via the Queen Mary II, and staying for a month in England. A trip of a lifetime! Monday, August 22, 2011. The End of the Voyage. Day 1 on the Queen Mary II - I spent two hours in a launderette. Now, a launderette is a laundry room. They just called in a launderette on the QM2. Why did I spent 2 hours in a steaming hot room full of other peoples’ dirty clothes? Then it was dinner. Before dessert, our waiter asked Grandma our room nu...

Old Bloke On An Old Bike. The story of the restoration of a 1950s classic bicycle for a Land's End – John O'Groats charity ride in aid of Alzheimer's Society. Land’s End-John O’Groats (LEJoG). Old Bloke On An Old Bike. My name is Steve Pudney. I’m a university professor now, after a recent move from Essex, working in Sheffield, England. I wanted to mark this personal event in a way that emphasises the capabilities of older people and also does something to help people who do face disability in later life.
