The Old Broad's Field Guide: Above Street Level (And Climbing)
http://oldbroadsfieldguide.blogspot.com/2011/05/above-street-level-and-climbing.html
The Old Broad's Field Guide. Hovering on the edge of senior citizenship.I won't go quietly. Tuesday, May 3, 2011. Above Street Level (And Climbing). I have long envisioned time as level. We go from birth to death in a single direction on a valley floor, like a drive across the Bonneville Salt Flats. But as I think of it now, time also has a vertical element. As I get older, I gain perspective not only from looking back, but viewing life from the height of time. May 3, 2011 at 5:47 PM.
The Old Broad's Field Guide: August 2011

The Old Broad's Field Guide. Hovering on the edge of senior citizenship.I won't go quietly. Saturday, August 6, 2011. The Uncommon Harvest of Blueberry Bushes. This year, my mother was traveling when the blueberries ripened, so I took my husband instead. As we were picking, I realized I missed my mom. At this time of life, one wonders how many more years I will be able to pick blueberries with her. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Why I Started This Blog. Id rather be outside! View my complete profile.
The Old Broad's Field Guide: November 2010

The Old Broad's Field Guide. Hovering on the edge of senior citizenship.I won't go quietly. Tuesday, November 16, 2010. As an Old Broad, I have a mind full of memories (a privilege I cherish until senility creeps in). Certain recollections cause me to wonder how I wandered off the trail. Today, I pondered that question when we took a walk in the Lowami Hart Woods. Still a tiny island of nature in Beaverton, Oregon remaining from the days of Camp Lowami at this very location. Saturday, November 6, 2010.

The Old Broad's Field Guide. Hovering on the edge of senior citizenship.I won't go quietly. Why I Started This Blog. After years of wandering through school and jobs, I finally found my passion at a, ahem, slightly advanced age. The thought finally penetrated my aged brain that I really enjoy being outside! Comments, questions, advice and (kind) criticism welcome. Marry an outdoors woman. Then if you throw her out into the yard on a cold night, she can still survive. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Northwest Ramblings: Moving Day and A Solo Hike
http://nwramblings.blogspot.com/2013/09/moving-day-and-solo-hike.html
Hikes, birding, paddling, biking, wildflowers, camping, places and nature in the Pacific Northwest. Thursday, September 26, 2013. Moving Day and A Solo Hike. We moved from the southwest corner of Mount Rainier to northeast: White River Campground. We wanted to arrive early because we had no reservations. It took us a few attempts to find a spot we liked, but there seemed to be several available. Could it have anything to do with this sign? Well, I'm sure I'll sleep better tonight. Back at the campground,...

What is the difference between fantasy and a great road trip? With the trip, you come back with pictures! Saturday the 27th of July saw us on the road to Mount Rainier National Park. Set up in the Cougar Rock Campground. Still left us time for a short hike. Mount Rainier frosted and fluffy. Look for the sign! View my complete ...
Northwest Ramblings: In My Own Backyard
http://nwramblings.blogspot.com/2015/07/in-my-own-backyard.html
Hikes, birding, paddling, biking, wildflowers, camping, places and nature in the Pacific Northwest. Friday, July 17, 2015. In My Own Backyard. One of these pictures was shot on the Big Island of Hawaii, one was taken at the Trail of Two Forests south of Mount St Helens, in Washington. Can you tell which is which? Here's an explanation of what you are seeing in these photos:. Much of ours came from huge vents in what is now eastern Oregon and Washington. That lava. At one new section of the trail, we came...

Northwest Ramblings: Paradise on Mount Rainier and Trees To Look Up To
http://nwramblings.blogspot.com/2013/09/paradise-on-mount-rainier-and-trees-to.html
Hikes, birding, paddling, biking, wildflowers, camping, places and nature in the Pacific Northwest. Tuesday, September 24, 2013. Paradise on Mount Rainier and Trees To Look Up To. What does Paradise look like? Seen from the Nisqually Vista Trail, it looks like this:. Such a beautiful place, even the wildlife is having fun! The Nisqually Glacier itself was a bit of a scenic disappointment. It's hard to tell which is mountain and which is glacier, except for the Nisqually Trickle flowing from the glacier.
Northwest Ramblings: Ice is Nice, Part 2
http://nwramblings.blogspot.com/2013/01/ice-is-nice-part-2.html
Hikes, birding, paddling, biking, wildflowers, camping, places and nature in the Pacific Northwest. Tuesday, January 22, 2013. Ice is Nice, Part 2. A cold morning at Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge. The yellow gold morning sunlight tints slightly pink as it shines through the frost collected on winter's vegetation. The boardwalk had a nice glaze, which up close was fuzzy. Early January's sunny days coming to an end and the poor waterfowl wait for the thaw. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
Northwest Ramblings: Little Sun at Sunrise - East Side of Mount Rainier
http://nwramblings.blogspot.com/2013/11/little-sun-at-sunrise-east-side-of.html
Hikes, birding, paddling, biking, wildflowers, camping, places and nature in the Pacific Northwest. Thursday, November 14, 2013. Little Sun at Sunrise - East Side of Mount Rainier. Perched on the northeast side of Mt Rainier at White River Campground, we had easy access to the beautiful Sunrise area, where the wildflowers and birds gave us a good excuse to take it slow. (The fact that we started out at over 6000 feet and went up from there had nothing to do with it. . .). Id rather be outside!
Northwest Ramblings: To the Dry Side
http://nwramblings.blogspot.com/2014/05/to-dry-side.html
Hikes, birding, paddling, biking, wildflowers, camping, places and nature in the Pacific Northwest. Monday, May 26, 2014. To the Dry Side. Life west of the Cascade Mountains is moss (it grows everywhere! Moisture and moderation: it rarely gets really hot or cold. Crossing to the east side of those mountains changes vegetation, climate and the view; the very air feels different. We like to visit those arid places, but I'm always happy to return to the velvet of the west. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Old Broads Abroad | Old Women, Old Wine and New Wanderings
Old Women, Old Wine and New Wanderings. Our wonderful cat sitters were there to pick us up and all we needed were our suitcases. We went to baggage claim and waited and waited and waited. Guess what? I gave her all my phone numbers and she said they would call us that night and let us know if they had been found. Did we get a call? We didn’t get our luggage in Barcelona and now we didn’t get our luggage in LA. We finally got home around 7:30 pm. Our Last Day in Italy. A Lazy Day In Matera. We drove on to...

The Old Broad Sheet
The Old Broad Sheet. Keeping It Together While You're Falling Apart. Monday, September 14, 2015. Last week at the library, I picked up a petite, minty green book with the titillating title, The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up. How does one tell the difference? Still, I was also curious because The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up. Was translated from the Japanese and the pictured author is a young, fragile-looking beauty named Marie Kondo, who. As I began reading the book, my husband told me Tidying Up.
Old Broad's Hood
Ramblings, musings and diatribes of an over-50 ex journalist surviving in St. Louis. Monday, September 21, 2009. Why I'm not the one to fix health care. Yeppo, health care needs to be fixed. Somewhere along the line, I'm convinced we're going to have to take a leap of faith. And hope those dealing the cards are smarter than the average bear. My dilemma is when and where to jump. That's the extent of my understanding. I'm sure it's a lot more complicated than that. But even knowing that much tells...Tort ...
Hill Country Gal
Monday, February 11, 2008. Taught me 3 things this weekend. 1 When pissed off, crying and hollering is self-defeating. All it does is make you snot. Instead, trot your ass outside, turn your face upward toward the sun, and occasionally, lick your balls. OK, so the ball-licking part is out, but the sun thingie is in. 2 If you arf, get somebody else to clean it up. Then drink lots of water. 3 If someone raises your hackles, listen to your hackles. They're there for a reason. Trust them. OK, 4 things. Dude,...
