Pellerin was of course a member of the Ecole Fantaisiste. And author of the collection Le Bouquet Inutile. Edited by Francis Carco and published posthumously in 1923. The design was sketched out on light tan Pastelmat, 15.5 x 12 ins, and the underpainting developed in its basic tonality. Still Life Pastel paintings, with some notes on their genesis and progression. Tuesday, January 21, 2014. This is the finished pastel of Chaenomeles japonica. I added the reflections, which were absolutely necessary to ground the painting (compare the most recent unfinished stage); some highlights; some detail on the vase; and I darkened the shadow side of the vase where it fades into the dark. I also scumbled some Roché. Blue into the top left and right of the background to emphasise the complements.
