Old Lady Laughing: January 2015
http://oldladylaughing.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
And Rachel McAlpine writing. Sunday, January 18, 2015. Anne Karpf on aging: you're doing it now, and it's fine. I read "How to age" by Anne Karpf on my Kindle, and reviewed it for Amazon. I totally agree with Karpf's attitude towards aging — embrace aging, start young, it's continuous, it's interesting, it's growth, it's part of life. But alas, this is not easy in a culture that hates and fears old people and all they symbolise. Title and cover don't do this important book justice. I recommend this book.
Old Lady Laughing: The Hulme-Parker murder revisited

And Rachel McAlpine writing. Friday, May 27, 2011. The Hulme-Parker murder revisited. Today I watched Reflections of the Past. A documentary about the notorious Hulme-Parker murder case in Christchurch in 1954. As a documentary, it left much to be desired, but it stirred up new thoughts about the personal agenda of the many interviewees—and of myself. Many of us have a stake in how the murder is perceived by others—which is tightly entangled in how we perceive ourselves. I was not a friend of Juliet's...

Old Lady Laughing: November 2013
http://oldladylaughing.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
And Rachel McAlpine writing. Tuesday, November 26, 2013. Writers read: the plus and minus of writing in the present tense. Is a delightful novel about a smashed grand piano and its people. As a writer, I started pondering the problems of writing an entire novel in the present tense. You can only dive into the past by making a character speak or think about it. You can't take us there. The emphasis is likely be on constant activity. It's difficult to step back for a breather, to reflect on events. Many a ...

http://ucheumez.sentinelpoetry.org.uk/2013/11/bubbles.html
Uchechukwu Peter Umezurike's Sentinel Blog - a rash of musings. Saturday, 9 November 2013. I am standing here. Looking at this photograph. Of you the eve before you left. The sudden rattle in your chest. We were blowing soap bubbles. And you said, what’s a metaphor? And I’m like, women! So I’m here looking at this photograph of you. Mists frozen on mountains behind you. Thinking of the soil that’s already been flattened. Wishing your mom didn’t call. Every day –. The grey around your eyes.

Uchechukwu Peter Umezurike's Sentinel Blog - a rash of musings. Wednesday, 11 July 2012. People Look in the Mirror for Different Reasons, or The Parable of the Guest Writer and the Budding Writer. After the applause has faded away. The budding writer comes up breathlessly to the Guest Writer for a chat. 8216;You’ve written a lot of fiction,” the budding writer enthuses. “And you haven’t made money from your writing? The Guest Writer ponders a while then asks,” Which notable citizens? 8220;…it’...

Uchechukwu Peter Umezurike's Sentinel Blog - a rash of musings. Wednesday, 25 September 2013. Poetry Interview pt. 1. Many literary interviews in Nigeria tend to focus on fiction writers, thereby creating a kind of gap that undercuts the value of poetry in Nigeria. In order to fill up this lacuna and enrich poetic discourse, i decided to do an interview on poets instead, starting with this first set of Nigerian poets:. Uzor Maxim Uzoatu, Jumoke Verissimo and Obari Gomba. The New Black Magazine. Picture W...

Uche Umez: Dami has offered us a Slim, Pert Poetry Holder
http://ucheumez.sentinelpoetry.org.uk/2013/11/dami-has-offered-us-slim-pert-poetry.html
Uchechukwu Peter Umezurike's Sentinel Blog - a rash of musings. Friday, 1 November 2013. Dami has offered us a Slim, Pert Poetry Holder. Disappointed in Dami Ajayi. Politically correctness aside, I am. Flatly. Disappointed, for I did expect something much more than what he has offered us: here is a very capable young man, who opted to shortchange his brilliance by not publishing a volume of poetry, but instead offered his throng of admirers a slim pert 30-paged poetry holder. Not surprising, for me at le...

Uchechukwu Peter Umezurike's Sentinel Blog - a rash of musings. Monday, 31 October 2011. Our People in London. A friend told me this vignette, but it was full of gaps, which I have tried to fill up and relive below:. Though I’ve just rolled out of bed. I’m still full of yawns. It’s nearly 7 o’clock. I step into the bathroom, undress. Omamumi’s dulcet voice carries into the bathroom. I flick a glance at the towel on the railing. I ignore the ring tone and splash water on my body. I try not to sing along.

A delightful poetry collection, with lines so quotable yet haunting. In spite of his hectic schedule, the poet obliged me an interview, here is an excerpt:. To its new perch,. A constant lure…. Old Lady Legs - taking on psoriatic arthritis
Old Lady Legs - taking on psoriatic arthritis. Wednesday, March 9, 2011. A couple of posts ago I mentioned my lovely Argentinian tai chi instructor, Eduardo, and the copper bracelet he kindly made me to 'cure' my arthritis. I have, in fact, been wearing it sometimes as it seems to keep turining up around the house. I generally put it on rather than trying to find an actual home for it. 4 If you have a cut or some dry skin, you should get a cow to lick it - I'm not even making this up. In Eduardo's vi...
OLD LADY LINCOLN
I like to post a joke, to start someones day off with a smile. Also to write about my family, friends, cooking, hobbies and etc. Sunday, March 25, 2018. The wife, after sleeping soundly for about an hour, awakened without pain and, as it was still early, decided to go the party.Since her husband didn’t know what her costume was, she thought she would have some fun by watching her husband to see how he acted when she was not with him. Did you dance much? I'll tell you, I never even danced one dance. W...

Had two fans running in the cabin in the park, surrounded by shade trees. Wasn't too bad, as long as you were just sitting. We once again had plenty of food. But stick of butter I sit out on a paper plate with some bread, melted very quickly. Steve and Renda Alexander (Dorothy's son and daughter-in-law). Steve gave the pr...
