Family Builds House, First Day Cottage: unloading the building supplies
http://www.oldpoppy.com/preparing.htm
Stage 1, page 2 of 2. April 2004 - Materials arrived on the 13th and we've been building ever since. Utility trench was dug and laid. Roarke, of Roarke's Earthwork did the trench and Dave laid the pipe. You'll see doors, windows, insulation and wood all over your property. Keep it as close to the building site as possible and keep exposed wood covered. Where we live now?

We were finishing up in the Spring, almost one year from our start date. However, we have continued updating pictures as seasons change and we do more work. See Bread Oven at bottom of this page. Living Room w/Masonary Stove Shown. Loft in upstairs bedroom. See ladder going up. Ladder can slide along wall. Loft makes a special childrens play space but doubles as a sleeping space when having an overflow of company. The washer and dryer are tucked away in a closet at the top of the stairs. Back of our home.
Family Builds House, First Day Cottage: framing, walls, roof

Click on this picture. Feel life in Southern Oregon. Framing, Walls, Roof. Click on pics to enlarge. Dave's brother, Marc Lefkowitz, flew in for a few days of manual labour and our house rose up! Dave and Marc got the entire front half of the house framed out and they laid the second story floor. They may have done other things but webmaster, Nadine, was in Mexico on a buying trip for her work and couldn't get pics and information. Marc, Dave's brother. Some picture taking was missed during this period.
Family Builds House, First Day Cottage: Back addition, extra bedroom and bath
http://www.oldpoppy.com/stage3.htm
Click on pics to enlarge. Add two more workers to the formula and the house goes up! Alex and Nick Obriecht, (father and son from Maryland), stopped in for a quick building stint before embarking on a cross country bike trip. A little pleasure ride for two such motivated gentlemen. Thanks Alex and Nick. Alex (big guy in center) arrived on June 7 and got right to work. Positioning a goal post. The entire stucture rests on the goal posts. We have the two goal posts in. We are on our way. To build your home?
Family Builds House, First Day Cottage: Electrical, Plumbing and Trenching

Dave and brother-in-law, Kevin. Page 1 of 3. Lots'a new stuff on next two pages. Go to bottom of this page and click on pages 2 or 3. Work is the grand cure of all the maladies and miseries that ever beset mankind. -The Secret Garden. Trenching between house and septic system. One trench we needed. If you need one, call Roarke's Earthworks of Southern Oregon. Roarke, friend and neighbor, brought this monster over to help. We had to trench all the way up to the top. Of our property. A storage tank.

Building the Art Barn and Studios: Laying Gravel and Sand
http://buildingtheartbarn.blogspot.com/2010/05/laying-gravel-and-sand.html
Wednesday, May 26, 2010. Laying Gravel and Sand. We prepared the ground to receive one ton of TN Flagstone for the gazebo floor by digging a large circle about four to six inches deep. We filled this space with about three inches of crushed limestone / gravel. We then covered that with two inches of sand. The large flagstones will be set into the sand. We smoothed out the gravel and stamped it down. Then we brought in the two inches of sand. We spread it out and left it loose. No stamping. Laying Gravel ...

http://buildingtheartbarn.blogspot.com/2010/04/staking-for-wedding-gazebo.html
Monday, April 12, 2010. Staking the ground for the Wedding Gazebo. Robbie, myself and Sophie position the stakes for our oldest daughter's wedding gazebo. Noel and her fiance, Danny, will be married here this summer. Yep that's me. I like getting my hands dirty. and my butt. We had to level a string to help us level the ground. Sophie became an expert at reading the string level. A perfect job for her. If you look closely you can see a rough outline for the gazebo. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Monday, May 12, 2008. A Million Shades of Green! It's the middle of May and everything has finally turned a million glorious shades of green. Today was warm and sunny with a light breeze. Anna and I, along with our friends Becky and her daughter Michaela, took a mini field trip to visit our land. My brother Richard recently gave us a peddle boat for the pond and we took it out for a test ride. It's really fun! Michaela and Anna - fun in the peddle boat. A rare photo of me. (Robin). Welcome to the Art Farm.

Monday, April 12, 2010. Digging up the Ground for the Gazebo Floor. We had to loosen and remove soil six inches deep. The tree roots were a nightmare. The big shovel thought the tree roots were toothpicks. No problem. After removing the soil six inches deep, we had to level and stamp the ground. We did this by hand. Oh my. Tuesday, July 29, 2008. Sunday, July 20, 2008. Are we farmers now? We bought us a tractor. Does that make us farmers? It's a beautifully restored 1958 International Harvester Farmall model 330 Utility Tractor, which Sophia appropriately named "Big Red". It came with a grader blade, middle buster plow and a bush hog. Oh my gosh, we own a bush hog! Well, both of them.). What could be more fun? Antique ad: International Harvester. (Great heading: "He Drives a Weapon! Just an old photo I found online.
