Am Anfang war das Nichts Vor der Gründung der OTDP 1958 gab es im oberschwäbischen Raum keine wahrnehmbare Jazz-Szene. Lediglich einige kleinere Gruppen fanden sich zu Swing-Sessions zusammen, traten aber nicht an die Öffentlichkeit. Die einzige Jazzveranstaltung überhaupt war bis dahin ein Konzert der weithin bekannten Tremble Kids aus Zürich. So ist es wohl erlaubt, 50 Jahre OTDP mit 50 Jahren Jazz im Oberland gleichzusetzen.
