I noticed something bright in the bird bath. It was not a bird, but it was as brilliantly colored as an exotic parrot. Its colors were iridescent and seemed to shine even though it was in the shade. Regular readers know that I am fascinated by the incredible variety of mushrooms that pop up in the spring. I can't help but take picture after picture of them. Some of them come up slowly and start with a rounded form and end with a cup shape. The little grey ones come up in the morning and are gone by evening. Some look like fantastic hats.

You might not even notice that there is a bloom, because it is green. This wild flower is called "Jack in the Pulpit". This year it isn't only. Back in February Mimi gave me a bulb. It looked like a daffodil bulb. She couldn't remember what it was. So Granddad planted it. Who ever heard of a Jack-in-the-pulpit in a pot in the house?

He has come calling just outside the window. It is a great costume. I suspect Hawk is not waiting for candy. Too bad I don't have some tasty mice in the Halloween bowl. Saturday, October 29, 2011. Since blogging, we've been to Germany for a two week visit! Eric turned 3 years old and we celebrated at Oma and Grandpa's house with " a chocolate cake with a blue moose on it and balloons", just like he ordered. Then we celebrated Margaret's 6th birthday. We were still in the April Fool's Day spirit. We died Easter eggs! We had dinner at fancy locations.

This year we celebrated Halloween officially for four days! And two weeks before that, too. These pictures are from the downtown trick-or-treat, called "Scaramie", on Saturday morning. Glenn and Ineke stayed home with the children and Sean and I got to take a weekend vacation for our eleventh anniversay! The present for eleven years is steel. Steel? Eric had been wanting to play soccer since he was one year old. We have had to literally restrain him from rushing the field during William's and Margaret's games for two years. But now that he is three, and finally old enough to be a little kicker ( Eric: It's" BIG KICKER! He has largely refused to go on the field!

Claire visited from Germany! My family went camping and I got her all to myself for a few days. What an utter treat! And, it was so completely worth it. Wyoming has wilderness. But there was no airplane! Only rocks and sky. A view like this is humbling. Makes you feel like a tiny speck in the geology. 9/30/12, 6:18 AM.
