Fondé au XIVe siècle, la plupart des bâtiments actuels dateraient du XVIIe et XVIIIe siècle. Le couvent fut fermè en 1792, et vendu comme biens nationaux en 1794. L’église fut alors démolie et les bâtiments transformé en ferme. En 1899, la compagnie des mines de Bruay acheta la chartreuse, pour la transformer en cité ouvrière.
