Olives and artichokes - a Mediterranean garden. Olives et artichauts - un jardin méditerranéen. Monday, 31 January 2011. Time to sow more broad beans. The rosemary has been in flower all through the winter, the garlic is growing well and there is bright green new growth on the olive trees following the pruning. The chard and spinach plants seem to be starting to grow again, the red cabbages are hearting up and a few small turnips were ready to eat for lunch today. Saturday, 22 January 2011. Modern commun...

Olives and artichokes - a Mediterranean garden. Olives et artichauts - un jardin méditerranéen. Monday, 25 October 2010. Easy for some… different stories of olive harvesting. These are some of our olives, picked a couple of weeks ago, which we’ve salted and left for about ten days, with some added bay leaves and rosemary. They were easy to harvest (with our son’s help) and no one else but us had been anywhere near the tree – it was safe. Olive trees seem very special to me – because of their longe...

Our neigh...

Olives and artichokes - a Mediterranean garden. Olives et artichauts - un jardin méditerranéen. Wednesday, 29 December 2010. We’ve had our family staying for the past week – the reason why I haven’t posted on this blog for a while – and yesterday the weather was so warm and sunny that we spent several hours in the garden and had our lunch there for the first time for weeks. Before pruning the larger of our two olive trees quite severely I took photos of the branches in the sun. Apéritifs in the garden.

Olives and artichokes - a Mediterranean garden. Olives et artichauts - un jardin méditerranéen. Wednesday, 18 May 2011. What a difference a year makes. I’ve been reminded by reading this post. By Michelle on From Seed to Table, that I’ve been meaning to post photos of my caper plants. It was Michelle who originally sent me the seeds in autumn 2009 from which my plants have grown. Last December (2010) they were like this (left) and a year ago they were seedlings in small pots (above). 18 May 2011 at 19:19.

Knitting for babies born too soon. Tuesday, September 20, 2011. On the anniversary of the birth of my sister's still born baby girl, Olive Stephanie, we decided to donate swaddling wraps to the hospital that took such good care of the family through the ordeal. We spent the weekend making these special baby wraps to donate to the hospital specifically for (yucky word ahead) fetal demise. Isn't that just a horrible couple of words! We made several sizes from teeny-tiny to full-term. When families go throu...
