End of Odyssey | Mental Revolution
https://oliviado.wordpress.com/2011/07/18/end-of-odyssey
Skip to primary content. July 18, 2011. 8230;otherwise known as getting kicked out of the nest. For six weeks, we all had our nose to the grind, writing, critiquing and learning with intense concentration. We also bonded with each other. Suddenly, I’m back home again and it all feels so very weird. I spoke to Fairy today and he agrees that it feels odd to not be at the dorms doing critiques. Did I really learn a mind blowing amount of information about writing and the publishing industry? We had some gre...
Finally Official, Gary Braunbeck and More… | Mental Revolution
https://oliviado.wordpress.com/2011/07/05/becoming-official-gary-braunbeck-and-more
Skip to primary content. Finally Official, Gary Braunbeck and More…. July 5, 2011. Some author once said, “You know you’re a writer when you’re looking up things on the internet that makes you look like a serial killer.”. I think I became an official writer today when I typed into Google Search the following query:. 8220;Drugs that can be injected to make it look like a heart attack”. To Each Their Darkness. I’m exciting to read this book but it may not be until after Odyssey is done. On critiquing, ever...
Random Bits and Pictures | Mental Revolution
https://oliviado.wordpress.com/2011/07/02/random-bits-and-pictures
Skip to primary content. Random Bits and Pictures. July 2, 2011. Natalie and I stayed up til the wee hours last night so I was planning to sleep in this morning. At 7:30am, Natalie was up. I saw Natalie up and working, assumed it was later in the morning, so I got up too…only to realize that it was only 7:30. BOO. Then, I spent most of today researching for a new story. North Korea stuff. It made me sick mentally and emotionally. UGH. Here we are, walking down the street with our swords. Enter your comme...
Revision and Recap of the Last 4 Weeks | Mental Revolution
https://oliviado.wordpress.com/2011/08/21/revision-and-recap-of-the-last-4-weeks
Skip to primary content. Revision and Recap of the Last 4 Weeks. August 21, 2011. No one warned me that revisions would lead to madness. But it does, my friend. It does. I am in the process of revising the stories I wrote at Odyssey and have been doing a poor job of it. Mostly I’ve been stumbling about adding things and then taking it out again. Luckily, my good friend Greg has thrown me a rope by asking a few good questions. 8220;What are your goals for this revision? Finally…the best advice:. Is it a c...
Desperation | Mental Revolution
https://oliviado.wordpress.com/2011/06/27/desperation
Skip to primary content. June 27, 2011. I need a story! I have all these ideas bouncing around in my head but nothing concrete! And my story is due Wednesday morning! So far, all I have is one random first line:. He woke up in Juarez, naked except for a pair of pinstriped socks. I have no idea what to do with it. On the brighter side, we had a barbeque today. I tore into a nice med-rare steak and got in touch with my neanderthal-cavewoman self. It was quite lovely. This entry was posted in Odyssey.

Christopher Owen: February 2014
http://christopherowenwriter.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html
Friday, February 14, 2014. Finally, A New Post. Just checked my writing blog and realized it was painfully in need of updating. Last entry: back in March! Sorry, I’ve been quite remiss in keeping it up. I have been writing. Mostly work on a novel, hence the dearth of short stories this year, though I did manage a few pieces of flash, most of which are up over at Every Day Fiction. TFOM takes place during a single week in June in the fictional town of Brandywine, Maine. (The week of Midsummer’s ...So, tha...

Friday, August 31, 2012. Just a quick update to inform that I arrived at Worldcon in Chicago yesterday. WorldCon, for those who don’t know, is the World Science Fiction Convention, this year in its 70. Iteration. It’s actually my second WorldCon, (I went to Lonestar Con 2 in San Antonio back in ’97), but it’s my first to attend as a writer. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Christopher Owen: May 2012
http://christopherowenwriter.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html
Wednesday, May 2, 2012. Dissecting A Story: Way to Blue. Writers often seem to loathe the thought of commenting on their own writing process, and even more so upon their finished stories. This is probably a good thing, and I for the most part concur. A finished piece of writing should stand on its own, without explanation or annotation. It is the reader’s right to discover the charms of the tale on their own, and let the story be what it is for them and them alone. I’ve decided to comment upon the ...

Christopher Owen: Vonnegut and the Future of Books
http://christopherowenwriter.blogspot.com/2013/01/vonnegut-and-future-of-books.html
Wednesday, January 23, 2013. Vonnegut and the Future of Books. I’ve been reading a lot more lately- a thing which I challenged myself to do when I got back from Worldcon last September. Any good writer will tell you that a writer needs to read as much as they write, for it is in this manner that the brain feeds itself so that it can then regurgitate that input into what one hopes will be wholly better output. How do we reward such an exhibitionist? We say to him or her the next morning, 'Wow! Ah, the int...

Christopher Owen: Heading to Middle Earth
http://christopherowenwriter.blogspot.com/2012/09/heading-to-middle-earth.html
Saturday, September 22, 2012. Heading to Middle Earth. I’m currently on a vacation of sorts, in a much-loved realm, though I haven’t left home. I’m talking, of course, of the pilgrimage I take to Middle Earth every few years, in the form of re-reading my favorite novel, The Lord of the Rings. (and yes, though it is call a trilogy, or even THE trilogy, it is really just one long novel). Birthday party to when Frodo leaves the Shire) Tolkien was a great lover of nature, and this is reflected in his prose&#...

Christopher Owen: June 2012
http://christopherowenwriter.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html
Thursday, June 7, 2012. Ray Bradbury, RIP. Ray Bradbury, one of my favorite authors, has just passed away. Better writers than I will eulogize him. I can only offer these simple thoughts:. Ray Bradbury was the first writer who made me realize that words alone can evoke great beauties in the mind that go beyond the mere meaning of the sentences that they make up. He made me realize that a writer, at their best, is an artist painting with words, painting great visions on the canvas of the mind’s eye. In da...

Christopher Owen: March 2015
http://christopherowenwriter.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Thursday, March 26, 2015. Chronological Controversies in Fiction. I was reading Neil Gaiman's new novel, The Ocean at the End of the Lane. Today In the book Neil referenced C. S. Lewis's Narnia series of books, and as often happens when I read, this sent my mind off on thoughts of my first experiences of reading those books. This led to additional thoughts on the internal chronology of book series versus the order of their writing/publication. This was of course the one called "The Magician's Nephew.".

random thoughts and more...
Random thoughts and more. This blog is about my life, my loves, my thoughts, my experiences. Hopefully, it will inform, inspire and entertain. Sunday, May 02, 2010. Today was eating day Sunday! Breakfast was a ham and egg sandwich and a glass of milk. This was the only relatively "light" meal of the day. The rest was just gluttony! Heheeh. Thanks Randy and Stella for the lunch treat! Until now, I'm still burping Korean bbq! After a walk around Town Square or Town Center? Loved their fries too! I had to c...
