The dog ate it. It is better to travel well than to arrive. Travel has long been a passion of mine, one that thankfully is shared by my wife. As such we endevour to spend much of our holiday time far away from home, preferably abroad. Not that there’s anything wrong with England, but I figure we’ll still be able to visit England when we’re older and frailer and in no fit state to fly half way around the world. The dog ate it. A 90mm macro lens and 35mm prime lens to my collection along with a flashgun, tripod and various filters. I passed the half way mark recently and decided to take a break. I wanted to get this website up and running so at the moment the project is on hold, although hopefully if you’re reading this, that means the site is live and I’ve started on my remaining 182 days of photos. The dog ate it. As I said on the main photography page, a big part of taking good photos is knowledge and practice – I’m not about to write a book on the subject (even if I had time, I don’t feel. Charge your battery before you leave the house, even if the meter says it’s almost full. The meter lies. A prime lens with a wide aperture is an amazing powerful tool for isolating your subject with a shallow depth of field. I hardly ever use my tripod outdoors, in good light it makes very little difference.

It’s called Snowy Scenes and it’s a live wallpaper which lets you choose from a selection of 20 or so background images, which are then displayed with ‘live’ snow floating in front of them. The photos are all shots I’ve taken, mostly from around Leamington but also a few I took in the Canadian rockies. Here are a couple of screenshots:.

The app now got a preview gallery in the settings when you’re choosing the backdrop which took me a lot longer to implement than I’d hoped (the android UI widget system is a complex beast, if anyone knows of a good book on the subject I’d be interested to read it.
