If necessary make brief notes to guide you. 2 Practice many times. 3 Relax, take a deep breath, and wait until the audience is quiet. 4 Speak loudly and clearly , and use your voice for stress and emphasis. 5 Use gestures to show meaning. Make them slowly and clearly. 6 Use simple visual aids that everyone can see. 7 Make eye contact with the audience as you speak. 9 Think about how you can do better next time. Point 4 is obviously vital.

Tuesday, February 15, 2011. I’d like to introduce Mohamed Saleh. His ambition is to be a successful businessman, perhaps in the building trade. His best holiday was when he went to Muscat, Oman, last year with his family. He has been to Oman several times and he likes it because he has so many friends there. And the worst thing is the attendance policy: 5%, 10%, etc. He thinks this is too tough. Failure is just one step on the road to success. We learn more from our failures than from our successes.

My 2 fellow committee members were somewhat taciturn and hesitant at the outset but quickly grew in confidence. They expressed their opinions quietly but forcefully.
