Here she is everyone, The Tangerine Dream, in all her citrus glory. Don’t let her fool you, she may be cute, but she’s a brute! It took a lot of time for me to decide on the ol’ push-rod. I inevitably ignored everyone’s recommendations of Surly Long Haul Truckers and Thorns in favour of an Oxford Bike Works Model 3, recommended by Tom Allen (of www.tomsbiketrip.com). It’s custom made (for someone else), and it took me a while to get used to, but I’m smitten. Oxford Bike Works Model 3.

July 19, 2016. End of Part One. People make an assumption that when you go cycle touring you’ll see lots of lovely wildlife. I’ve seen all sorts of animals. All dead at the side of the road. Over the friendly bridge the first thing I realised was the they drive on the left side of the road. For a minute I wondered whether I’d remember how to do it. The answer was yes, it’s something you never forget, like riding a bike. Some monk had left his tea towel drying out. But what offerings do the spirits prefer?

Monday, 9 November 2015. The lathe is now set up on a bench, and I have had a chance to practice using my new tools. My first thing.EVER! Then I thought I'd have a go at a bowl using an offcut from a thick kitchen worktop. These were sanded using a fine grit and natural oils used to finish. A few days later I made and acorn in softwood, sanded on the lathe, polished with wax and buffed with soft safety cloth. I enjoy this craft a lot and can't wait to learn how to do it better.
