Why not give the Japanese a chance to surrender after Hiroshima? There was a debate regarding the use of atomic bombs against Japan. Most of the discussion concerned a possible technical demonstration of the bomb that may preclude its actual use. Would a failed demonstration have the opposite effect and somehow steel the Japanese resolve?
