When our son Andrew was born with Down syndrome he brought so much joy to our family that our kids nicknamed him "Happycake." They said "he makes you feel happy, like eating a piece of cake". Then we learned about the plight of abandoned children with Down syndrome around the world and we knew we had to make room for one more Happycake. “O Lord You hear the desires of the afflicted… You will incline your ear, to do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed” Psalm 10:17-18.

They soon decided to go on a mission to bring home their own bundle of joy from Eastern Europe. There are some who question the wisdom of burdening a family with a disabled child who has substantial needs. "What about your other children and the burden upon them" we are asked. A New Name, A New Identity and an Imperishable Inheritance. On October 26, 2013, in a tiny courtroom in Kiev, Ukraine, this little boy was officially declared our son by court decree.
