You need to scratch that into something like the chorus part of that song. Don’t even have them sing just use their voice notes as octaves. Jay Dilla doesn’t even scratch in all of his mixes, they are just crafted well. Alex "Alex Hochner" Hochner. Some parts of it almost sound like a minimalist piece with hip-hop drums looped overtop. Like when the melody just repeats a 4-note phrase at places like at :31, :38, 1:36, and so on. I think the lack of any other instruments besides the sample also serve to make it sound like something by Steve Reich or even John Cage. I like how the sample fades out at the end. The right half of the pop-up was created after I had roughed in the left half, so I used some tricks I learned earlier to make some more complicated layers, such as the church at the base of the valley. I totally miscalculated the distance the major bridge would extend from both sides, so the two ends had to overlap considerably for the suspension bridge above to connect as well. I originally had two separate pumpkins planned for tonight, but I ended up taking a lot longer on this one and didn't have enough time before the trick-or-treaters would be bombarding my door this afternoon with fabric-softener-riddled pillowcases and fancy costumes that just begged for me to give them extra candy out of adorableness. The game itself is based upon a balance between black and white, which I tried my best to replicate in the carving.
