One Ringing Bell: May 2015
http://bev-oneringingbell.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Tuesday, May 26, 2015. One Ringing Bell Top Posts: On the prairie with Laura Ingalls Wilder. As promised, we begin a recap of One Ringing Bell top posts. This piece is from a series entitled Dream Summer from our family's pre 911 trip across this country (7,000 miles covered). For more click on the Dream Summers label. Our family was up for wagon rides, playing in the barn, and running through the prairie. Bethany, our gift shop queen, bought a bonnet and apron hand made by the women in De Smet. I looked...

One Ringing Bell: It you're thinking only a weed
http://bev-oneringingbell.blogspot.com/2015/03/it-youre-thinking-weed.html
Tuesday, March 31, 2015. It you're thinking only a weed. A couple of chrysanthemums who are supposed to make it through the winter, now only have dry branches with no green shoots coming from the roots. Goners. I toss them in a mulch pile. But another chrysanthemum has a few leaves at the base and shows promise, so I set it aside to repot. It’s a clematis. 8220;The servant grew up before God—a scrawny seedling,. A scrubby plant in a parched field. There was nothing attractive about him,. It’s somet...

One Ringing Bell: What are you swimming in?
http://bev-oneringingbell.blogspot.com/2015/05/what-are-you-swimming-in.html
Tuesday, May 12, 2015. What are you swimming in? Hallelujah, I’m a little over 32,000 words into my next novel manuscript. Somehow, when I get to this point, I can see a slight flickering light at the end of a very long road. When I’m sitting at about 15,000 words, it feels like an insurmountable, impossible, overwhelming, falling-from-the-sky-with-no-parachute endeavor. I already have a highly edited manuscript entitled,. The General’s Legacy. It has been my privilege to find dear friends in my readers&...

One Ringing Bell: Everything New
http://bev-oneringingbell.blogspot.com/2015/04/everything-new.html
Tuesday, April 14, 2015. It’s spring, and the newness of it all causes me to want to make some things new myself. I’ve been ready for an office reno for a while, but as a ministry family, we’ve always had to live on a budget. That budget insures all decorating requires getting creative. I wondered if I could strip down the top of the base, paint the bottom, and use it as a sort of credenza in my office/sunroom. I spent an entire day last week doing just that. And here it is. 8217;” (Revelation 21:5).

One Ringing Bell: On writing what you know
http://bev-oneringingbell.blogspot.com/2015/04/on-writing-what-you-know.html
Tuesday, April 28, 2015. On writing what you know. Writers often hear the admonition to “write what you know,” which means if you grew up in the rural south, it’s probably not a good idea to write a coming of age story set in Manhattan. Of course, given our access to information these days, via the worldwide web, our ability to reach outside our usual parameters has been greatly expanded. That is not the kind of “write what you know” I’m talking about. I hear writers say they don’t know what to wri...

One Ringing Bell: When you need comfort
http://bev-oneringingbell.blogspot.com/2015/04/when-you-need-comfort.html
Tuesday, April 21, 2015. When you need comfort. I know a dear woman who was told a few weeks ago that her sister is dying. Then this week she found out her daughter has had a recurrence of cancer. Sometimes, we can hardly catch our breath before the next storm blows in. Like everyone else, we have had our share of these circumstances. I was just recovering from Posttraumatic stress when doctors told me I had cancer. It can feel as if we have whiplash from all the jarring. God knew it could be like that.

One Ringing Bell: All the way home
http://bev-oneringingbell.blogspot.com/2015/03/all-way-home.html
Tuesday, March 17, 2015. All the way home. One Christmas Eve during the years I worked as a buyer for a department store, as usual I didn’t get off work until the evening and then faced a long drive to my hometown to spend Christmas with family. That night, temperatures were predicted to be in the low teens, and the precipitation forecast was a bit sketchy. He was unrelenting. “I’m coming,” he said. But there is a place we can’t go, and things we can’t do. And where our ability fails, I b...8220;And I...

One Ringing Bell: If your God is too small
http://bev-oneringingbell.blogspot.com/2015/03/if-your-god-is-too-small.html
Tuesday, March 3, 2015. If your God is too small. As I sweep paint across a canvas measured in feet, it feels so strange. For decades, I've used a small brush to move color around on a watercolor block often as miniscule as four by six inches. A watercolor block next to a canvas I'm about to use. The transition from small to large has been liberating. I will always love the intricacies of watercolor, yet I am finding new joy in these broad spaces. Did you get that? God is big enough for all of it. I̵...
