Everything is from Lancaster County, just an hour away. They deliver to our favorite coffee shop in our neighborhood (which also sells take-out beer), so it makes our weekly trip totally worth it. One Recipe At a Time. Learning to Love Food, One Recipe At a Time. March 6, 2011 in Uncategorized. In the midst of studying and trying to balance work and play, I was able to take some time to read Mark Bittman’s “Food Matters. So, to sum it all up: I’m back. I’m busier than ever. I am going meatless and running 15 miles a week. And I can’t even stand it how badly I want spring to be here. Keep checking back to see me make even bigger moves in the next few months. Easter Pie! (One Month Late) | One Recipe At a Time

https://onerecipe.wordpress.com/2011/05/18/easter-pie-one-month-late

One Recipe At a Time. Learning to Love Food, One Recipe At a Time. May 18, 2011 in Baking. That totally defined my upbringing of Italian Easter dishes. I originally wanted to make a Ricotta Pie. But wasn’t keen on the addition of pineapple. I love the idea of Pizza Chena. Or as we say, Pizza Gain), but wasn’t into the addition of meat, and was a little intimidated by the whole concept. So I settled on the simple, yet delicious Italian Rice Pie, similar to my own family’s recipe. Adapted from Susan Russo.

One Recipe At a Time. Learning to Love Food, One Recipe At a Time. What I’ve Learned This Holiday Season: Brussels Sprouts Aren’t So Bad! December 13, 2010 in Recipes. What's for Dinner. I’ve never been a huge fan of Brussels sprouts. This is just purely based on the. Stu took the reigns on this one, as I was busy tying up loose ends (i.e. a pumpkin pie) for Thanksgiving. Ravioli with Brussels Sprouts and Bacon. From Real Simple Magazine. 1 pound cheese ravioli (fresh or frozen). 6 slices of bacon. Meanw...

Never Too Late for Pumpkin! | One Recipe At a Time

https://onerecipe.wordpress.com/2010/12/26/never-too-late-for-pumpkin

One Recipe At a Time. Learning to Love Food, One Recipe At a Time. Never Too Late for Pumpkin! December 26, 2010 in Recipes. What's for Dinner. I had been saving a recipe that was sent to us by our CSA from way back in October. I was waiting specifically until I didn’t have need for a pumpkin anymore. So after Thanksgiving came to an end, I got right to work. 1/2 of 1 small pumpkin seeded, peeled, and cubed. 1 can of coconut milk. 1/2 cup vegetable stock. 2 or 3 tablespoons of red curry paste. You are co...

Savory Flavors: April 2012

http://savoryflavors.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html

An urbanite trades in takeout for home-cooked meals and desserts. Whoever told me getting married was easy, was clearly incorrect, or had a wedding planner. I have been swamped with both a new job at work and with planning our upcoming wedding (6 weeks away! Unfortunately, I have not even had a chance to blog about anything that I have been up to, including trying out all of the new kitchen toys I received at my shower! As a thank you for my testing, OXO has given me an additional set of locking containe...

Savory Flavors: November 2011

http://savoryflavors.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html

An urbanite trades in takeout for home-cooked meals and desserts. I have always been curious about edible flowers. I've seen them, heard of them, but have never eaten them, until now. A few weeks ago, at my local farmer's market, I came across lavender buds, and knew that I had to have them. Lavender is typically used in fragrances, candles, and cleaning products. I would guess that most people are unaware that it is actually edible! Adapted from Joy the Baker. 1 tablespoon dried lavender blossoms. In a ...

Savory Flavors: December 2011

An urbanite trades in takeout for home-cooked meals and desserts. From Food and Wine Magazine, December 2011. 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil. 2 1/2 pounds trimmed, skinless, bone-in chicken thighs (I used boneless thighs). Salt and freshly ground black pepper. 1 large onion, thinly sliced. 3 large garlic cloves, minced. One 28-ounce can diced tomatoes. 2 canned chipotles in adobo, coarsely chopped (2 chipotles, not 2 cans). 1 cup chicken broth. 2 ounces Cotija cheese, crumbled.

Savory Flavors: September 2011

http://savoryflavors.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html

An urbanite trades in takeout for home-cooked meals and desserts. Between weekend travels, house decorating, and loads of work, I somehow tried to squeeze in some last of summer pickling. I happen to have a special place in my heart for dill pickles. They were a constant in my home growing up as my brother LOVED pickles as much as a dog loves bones. So, by default, I had them a lot too. That's my type of canning! Dill Pickles from Put 'Em Up. 2 c of ice cubes. 4 c distilled white vinegar. 2 Combine the v...

Savory Flavors: March 2012

http://savoryflavors.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html

An urbanite trades in takeout for home-cooked meals and desserts. Recently, I have started to try to make a few recipes that are a little on the challenging side for me- homemade marshmallows, vegetarian meals as I have given meat up for Lent, and this recipe for bagels. When I started to see a lot of fellow bloggers in the blogosphere attempt bagels successfully, I decided that it was time to get over my fear. Either way, these bagels turned out fantastically! From King Arthur Flour. 1 3/4 teaspoons salt.

Savory Flavors: Roasted Red Peppers

http://savoryflavors.blogspot.com/2013/01/roasted-red-peppers.html

An urbanite trades in takeout for home-cooked meals and desserts. These chilly days and nights in New England have certainly put stop to my desire to venture outside as much as I had done in the warmer weather. Bundling up in layers and boots and hats and scarves may sound romantic in the summer months, but when you're in the thick of snowstorms and single digit weather, I promise that it is not even romantic in the least bit. Inspired by My Berlin Kitchen. Recipe adapted from The Wednesday Chef. Preheat...

Savory Flavors: January 2012

http://savoryflavors.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html

An urbanite trades in takeout for home-cooked meals and desserts. I never thought I would be one of those crazy dog owners that talk to their dog, take the dog everywhere, and make the dog a birthday cake. Then again, I never liked to cook before either. The recipe is super simple to throw together, and is almost a twist on a cheddar apple biscuit, sans the cream cheese frosting. Gorgi LOVED the pupcakes, and I loved to watch him eat them! Unfortunately, he devoured them too quickly for my camera to catch.

An urbanite trades in takeout for home-cooked meals and desserts. Back at It- Finally! Thankfully, I was still cooking and using all of my lovely shower and wedding gifts during my long absence, which means that my skills have not diminished, but rather, improved. I'm super excited to be back at sharing my meals with a bigger community! Without further ado, here are a few things that I've done in the past 6 months. Savory Flavors: February Foodie PenPal Reveal!

http://savoryflavors.blogspot.com/2012/02/february-foodie-penpal-reveal.html

An urbanite trades in takeout for home-cooked meals and desserts. February Foodie PenPal Reveal! During early February, I stumbled across a blog post from a fellow blogger that detailed a foodie penpal group, and gifts she had received from her penpal. Also in the blog post was a link to the organizer of the event, and the opportunity to participate. As soon as I saw that I could join, I jumped for joy! I love a surprise package in the mail, and if I can send one to someone else, even better! Bulgur and ...
